How 'bout that Preachers wife...2 years and even maybe PROBATION, for killing her husband because he was a meany. The 9 year old daughter took the witness stand and said he was a good daddy and she wasn't aware of any problems in the house.

Jury was mostly made up of Women. That's the scary thing!
 
The Katie Awards used to be judged by a journalism school at a different out-of-state university every year. This woman is not typical of the journalists I've known in my many years in Texas.
 
It appears each and every award from last year needs to have an astricks placed by it, and the words "pending investigation". Its sad one has to tarnish respectability for their own pleasure, and since no law is broken she will get away with it.

Elizabeth Albanese may be one of the most honored journalists in North Texas. Or she could be at the center of one of its biggest media scandals.

The organization she led until last month, the Press Club of Dallas, is investigating whether she truly earned the four awards she won in a contest for which she helped arrange the judging.

Documents obtained by The Dallas Morning News show that Ms. Albanese has a criminal record under the name Lisa Albanese centered on allegations of theft. Former co-workers described a history of spinning lies. She also has a record of mental illness and delusional behavior.

Are the Katie Awards Bogus?

According to a number of published reports, the Dallas Press Club’s Katie Awards handed out a few months ago are in question. It appears no one actually judged the 2006 Katie awards, and now other years may be in question. It looks like Elizabeth Albanese decided who would get the trophies, because she can’t produce a list of anyone judging the awards. So, anyone winning a Katie a few months ago can take comfort in the fact that their award is likely illegitimate.

QUESTIONS:

Does that mean everybody gets their money back?
Do the winners still want to keep their tarnished trophies?
Is anyone surprised Elizabeth Albanese awarded herself four Katies?
Did Elizabeth use her position (and her four Katies) to land her new job?
Is there not at least some professional fraud involved here, if not criminal fraud?
Considering the complexity of the Katies, isn’t it likely Albanese didn’t act alone?
How many Dallas Press Club Board Members were awarded a Katie?

This could spell the end of the Dallas Press Club.
Michael Spears must be spinning in his grave…
 
The awards last year should be declared void. It hurts many who have worked hard at what they do,and have something like this happen. Stricter rules are in order. The pain is felt from the hard work many journalists did last year. What a scandal and "LISA"should pay dearly.
 
I hate to say it, but most of these awards are meaningless. Either you have a situation like we're reading about now where no one judged the awards, or you've got a handful of unknown people with too much time on their hands eating pizza in a conference room somewhere judging these things. It's rare that you get a lot of high quality journalists passing judgement on these awards. This incident just shows the public how meaningless these awards are.

It is sad. It could be better, but no one wants to really do what needs to be done.

Perhaps Ms. Albanese should apply at Scoundral Headquaters: CBS Radio Dallas. I'm sure Brian Ongoro would be delighted in having her on the CBS MANAGEMENT TEAM :D

As so far as rewards go,they are needed. If you have ever been a parent ,for instance,when your child revceives an award their eyes light up and a sense of pride envelopes you. When you receive an award by your peers its recognition of your efforts. Yes ,regretably some are political in anture,but overall its recognition that you were the best at that moment in your catagory. Now the current Katie problem will not only call the 2006 awards fraudulent,but may seriously harm the 2007 awards with less entries,and less prestige. It took many many years for the Katies to develop,and because of one selfish individual its on life support.

It's sad because many have won their first awards at the Dalals Press Club and felt they accomplished something through hard work. This woman made a travesty of it all and she should be made to pay for violating so many peoples emotions. I hope they found she violated probation/parole.etc,and charge with violating some type of law. Her firing at her job was too light.
 
I've been out of town, so I missed this story. Unbelievable.

I've entered the Katies for the past several years, but never won, nor did I make finalist. It didn't bother me, because I 'knew' this was the best of the best competing, and I was in a division with some national award winners.

However, for the 2006 contest, I entered early, and according to the posted rules. Several weeks later, I noticed that the entry rules had changed... dramatically, and my entry would not have qualified under the new rules. I emailed and called the Press Club to confirm if my entry made it into judging, and was assured that was the case.

In fact, here is the response that I received from the Press club on 20 October, 2006:

"Yes, we did receive your entry. You request went to our other website. Sorry for the delay in response.

Leann"


I didn't think any more about this, but now I wonder....

This is a very sad day for the Katies.

I honestly don't know what my entry status will be in 2007, if there is even a contest.
