DAMAGE CONTROL TIME FOR KEPLER - BODY COUNT TIME FOR WJJZ

See the latest R&R Online article from Carol Archer. A great lengthy damage control statement from the Kepler. Everything is going to be juuuust fine with the format. In fact, he has big plans for WJJZ. He is not specific but since he has all the answers the right thing to do, of course, is have WJJZ flip totally to his network. We've been speculating a format flip for the Philly station, but a body count may be in the offing anyway with a total flip to BA. Why not? Save WJJZ money to afford the current bad ratings while the Kep figures out what to do by---drum roll---blowing out local talent! I'm sure he's working overtime to save face in the wake of these major defections. Sounds like he talked Greater Media into buying him some time. He needs Philly because he'll only have Chicago's WNUA as a top ten outlet. And the BA hosts would not be happy just being heard in smaller markets. And there's got to be some kind of financial impact with these major defections. It's a fun read. Archer needs something to write about and she can't sustain her career by writing about a dead format, so the Arch and the Kep will no doubt be working together to save the format---and their jobs.

I totally gagged reading that..the Master of the art of Spin strikes again. Saying that if those stations had been his clients they would not have flipped. Sad that the guy in Philadelphia that put the new JJZ together and wanted to not sound like a generic Smooth AC is going to get kicked to the curb. There goes Bob Baldwin's Saturday night Free For All too.

RnR format editors' hands are pretty much tied to the ones that feed them. Look who reads it. Kepler and his cronies. Everyone else is out of work and can't afford a sub. RnR is even more corporate since the Billboard buyout and BA buys a lot of ad space. Plus they can't alienate all those Clear Channel subscribers. Since consolidation trade pubs. have pretty much become a thing of the past because why read the trades when your station is programmed by the home office. The impression I get from conversations with her over the years is that she can be more effective by being on the playing field even if the rules of the game are really restrictive than she would be on the unemployment line. Although with all these defections and a dwindling number of reporters, and no interesting content that she is alowed to write about, one only wonders how long they will maintain an SJ format section. If she got cut loose she could start an online trade pub and cover all the people, ideas, music, and stations that she cannot cover now. Is anyone who has a job in commercial radio or related to it not working with their hands tied right now??

plus...i had thought WJZW was in fact a BA station? maybe they weren't at the EXACT time of the flip, but I certainly think they worked with BA in the recent past. and even if they weren't...they WERE running BA's ramsey morning show during their final months...i mean doesn't that count? LOL

Yes I recall some time ago reading R'n'R and seeing BA congratulate WJZW on another fine ARB..
so, JZW may have still been under the BA umbrella,
