"Damages" to be DirecTV exclusive

The low-rated but critically acclaimed drama that never was a good fit to FX's younger demographics, is moving exclusively to DirecTV's "101" network for two more seasons starting next year. There will not be any sharing with more widely distributed networks, as is the case with their deal with NBC regarding "Friday Night Lights"

This looks like a growing trend among shows with a small yet loyal audience, being stuck to a service provider which you may have had bad experiences with in the past to get your favorite shows.

I never thought there was actually a step lower than "direct-to-video"...

Why was Damages not assumed to be a "good fit" for FX's "younger demographics?" Just because one main character (Patty Hewes) was played by 60 something Glenn Close? Arguably, the other main character was 30 something Ellen Parsons (Rose Byrne), and some currently hot young actors like Timothy Olyphant (Justified) had meaty parts.

It's too bad. It's a worthy show - so if DirecTV wants to bankroll another season or 2, that's OK with me. I have no plans to make DirecTV my satellite provider, so I'll just rent the next 2 seasons from NetFlix. That's what I've done with Showtime series for years now.

Perhaps I should have written "direct-to-Netflix" in my earlier post in this thread...
