Dan and the Danettes

Whats the story about the Danettes? I think some of them came from ESPN,and apparently EPSN did not want them to leave with Dan. Whats the story about them?

i don't know the real inside scoop but three of the four are former ESPN/Sirius employees. the other is an SI "forced" hire?

i think paul pabst has the longest affiliation with patrick. he left ESPN before dan but i think its semantics as he already knew he would go with patrick to his new gig. pabst is hard working but so scared of any real conflict or on air drama that he comes across as a vanilla straight man. seton o'connor is a former board op at ESPN and i believe left along with patrick. seton is old school radio housed in a "dude, i really dig the new band of horses album" body. i think todd fritz is the oldest and has the most varied career path - even kmpc in la? he's a talent booker and was the last to exit ESPN to go with patrick. andrew perloff was/is an established sports illustrated football writer who i believe was integrated in a synergy move when patrick started writing for SI in the reilly for patrick trade. the fakest of the danettes. the jerry lewis pratfall type.

their show originally started in patrick's home "studio" and quickly evolved into its current "FM Zoo" format. it even has a direct TV post game wrap up show hosted by an arty snowboarder type. lame recap of lame recaps.

the danettes were named by reggie miller which brings up my favorite dan patrick topic... not to harp on split milk but the dan patrick show's reluctance to address the reggie miller situation while at the same time sexing up the show with the SI swimsuit model wall posters, patrick's smarmy ego fake exchanges with brooklyn decker and todd fritz's fake lechy character were unbearably hollow and hypocritical. "hey let's bash ESPN at every opportunity" but not mention miller's issues was rough to take. the show lost all cred at that point.

anyway, the danettes deserve create for helping patrick have another bit at the apple. they seem to work hard and put out a better product than the competition. the idea of showing/filming how a "real" radio show is done was a good idea (copied by ESPN but somewhat shelved after patrick's every public finger in cowherd's chest) but danettes who live in glass man caves should be careful throwing stones.

I think the guys are okay and obviously carry the show and Patrick's big ego. No one other than Rome has been able to weasel himself into a "big time" radio talent role than the smarmy Patrick.

He's a phony who realized that his ESPN talking head fame was over once Olbermann left and he was too worried his lack of talent would be exposed. ESPN panicked when Keith left and gave Patrick a radio gig so he could get off sportscenter and not lose audience when he and Kenny Mayne had zero chemistry.

Patrick should give half his paychecks to Olbermann for lifting him out of the abyss of regular ESPN sportscenter readers and turning him into a pseudo star. Luckily, Directv is backing this tv -show-turned radio schlock and stations are so desperate for free programming, they'll buy anything that resembles quality. Heck, if Mike and Mike are superstars, Dan Patrick has to be a radio legend after a few short years on morning drive radio. Patrick would drown and fail miserably if his crew didn't prop him up and keep him from having to actually think up clever topics or do great radio. Load up 3 hours with guests and "pals", do inane "poll" questions to drive web hits and basically have zero chance of having to be creative or anything but pasturized, pompous, frat-boy radio.
