Dan Casey, 81, passes away.

I just saw this obit posted on FB. Another of my old radio guys has passed away. I did afternoon drive (2-6 PM M-F) on WNRK Newark DE 1969-1970 and Dan was the DJ on just before me. He was also Program Director and Music Director. What a delight to work with him. I was a 19-20 year old pain-in-the-ass, but Dan had plenty of patience and went out of his way to help me learn, learn, learn. He also told me a hilarious story about the time he was co-announcer with Bob Kelley (who I worked with at WILM Wilmington DE) when they were play-by-play announcing the homecoming Univ of Delaware football game in 1960. I can't tell the story here ... too risque. But it ranks as one of the great bloopers in Delaware broadcasting! Dan --- thanks for a ton of great memories and for the pleasure of knowing you. RIP my friend.

I worked with Dan while I was with WNRK in the 90's. Fun man to work with. Considering that I was brought in as his boss, I'm lucky that I survived! And he remembered stories from the Newark High football days, which he thankfully never told!

I worked Saturday nights at WNRK in the 90's (forget the exact years) and also had the opportunity to work with Dan Casey. I didn't see him often, but did enjoy some discussions with him when I did see him about radio and big band music, of which he was a major fan and who had tons of knowledge about the various band leaders, etc ( our format at the time included playing an occasional big band chart in the rotation so his insight was interesting and helpful). A truly nice guy. Dan was very knowledgeable, who really loved radio. As I recall, Dan was doing WNRK's play by play broadcasts for the various Newark area high school football games at that time. I seem to also remembering Dan doing an air shift during the weekdays, but don't quote me on that, it's been a long time ago. Yes, another great radio person from Delaware is gone.

Thats sad news to hear about Dan. I worked with him briefly at WDSD and at WNRK. He was always right on top of things when we set the remote up at the Aur Transport Command for a remote in New Castle and played music from the WW2 era. He was also fun to get the phoned in sports reports while I was doing news with Sue Duffield on the morning show in the 80's (I always use to give him a hard time on his last report at 8:30). Another one of the good guys are gone.

Mike, Dan did morning drive in the late 60/early 70's period. While you were there, he was pm drive, 1-5pm. Sue did Swap Shop 9-10, then music 10-1pm. She had made the move to morning drive in the mid-late 90's when Dave was on air.

When I was on morning, Dan did his reports via phone, then around 8:20 would walk in the door to do 8:30 in-person.

Jhguthlac, thanks for helping my memory of that time. It's been a while ago.
