Interesting that there is no mention of this loss on the Minneapolis-St Paul board, where he spent decades, with considerable success. In fact, there does not seem to be any activity there since June. Dan Donovan was not among the first Boss Jocks, but he was certainly talented and among the most successful of the "second generation." I remember his great pipes, precise delivery, up-tempo, funny content. A friend, who worked with him at WFIL, says he was "at the top of his profession." Contrary to the gregarious on-air persona, Dan was apparently rather shy. My friend described him doing his show from a darkened studio, wearing silvered sun glasses, and spending almost no time at the station beyond his show time. Not unfriendly, just very private. Unfortunately, he joins the long list of Famous 56 Boss Jocks who have passed away at seemingly young ages. I could only remember Dave Parks and Frank Kingston Smith from the original line-up who are still alive. Beyond them, of those who appeared before 1971 (when I left the area), I can think of J J Jeffrey, Dick Heatherton and Tom Tyler who are still alive.
