Dan Halyburton to run Hot 97

Emmis Communications has announced that Dan Halyburton, SVP/GM Group Operations for Susquehanna Radio Corp., has been hired as senior vice president/market manager for Emmis New York.

This is a great move. Dan is solid yet flexible. He's smart... and still willing to learn. Cummings made a great choice in having Halyburton run NYC!

I worked with Dan many years ago at WGBS Miami. I found him to be a knowledgable, nice guy into all aspects of the radio station from engineering to sales. He was very easy to talk to. Dan at WGBS was one of the few good things about working there. He left after a short while to take WQAM country.

Only Change music wise needed at Hot97 is Less Repetition. Loosen the Playlist a bit. Hearing the Same Song Every hour(Sometimes even twice in the Same Hour Can get annoying). I know "It's goin Down" is a Hot Track. but Hearing it 2 times in the 1pm hour than once again in the 2pm is a bit much.

According to R&R it was Played 123 times last week. I think any song with over 85-90 Spins is excessive.

Someone at Hot97 is getting the Picture finally on repetition. The Time I made the Previous Post Hot97 had 5 songs on their Playlist with over 100 spins a week 2 with over 120. the current Playlist has 1 song with 99 spins and 1 with 92 All the rest are now under 80 spins. the top 2 are a bit high but it's not insane as it was before, where it seemed you only heard the same 5 songs over and over again. Maybe people will stay tuned a bit longer.

Dan Halyburton joining Emmis/NYC

Go back and read the first post. It was Emmis, not Hot 97, that hired Dan Halyburton. He'll be responsible for 98.7 Kiss FM (R&B) and CD 101.9 (smooth jazz) as well.

If the name sounds familiar it's because he was PD of the old 1050/WHN in its country years.

Market manager in a cluster = station manager in a single-station setup. That means the market manager is not involved in music selection unless he's also the PD and/or MD.

But he can have "input" to the PDs and MDs. Either way, John Dimmick and/or Ebro is getting the picture with Hot97. I wish HOT97 was like some of the Smaller City Stations Where the Afternoon Drive Jock is Also the PD. In this case that would be Angie. Anyone think she would be a good PD? She is already doing the Music meetings with Ebro.
