Dan Ingram's WCBS-FM performance Sunday Night

Geez, it was a one time thing! No one is campaigning for "Ingram '07" here! Whether it was live or voice-tracked, it was a true "NY Radio Legend" on the air! Stop bashing the show and just appreciate him for the 30+ years of great radio he gave us!

I have to agree with everyone who is supporting Dan and who loved his show on Sunday.

You complainers should be happy that you were privileged to hear Dan live again.

Here in NC I have never been privileged to hear Dan live, I have only heard him on air checks, and I know that he was awesome, much better that Cousin Brucie ever was, but that is a topic for another day.

I wish that I could have listened to Dan on Sunday, I would have been glued to the radio, and I am sure he was still much better than anyone on the air anywhere today.

You could have listened to Dan on Sunday Night. CBS-FM streams at www.wcbsfm.com. Yes, even though this was not vintage Dan Ingram we heard on Sunday Night, I enjoyed listening to him. I think we should let Dan enjoy his retirement and stop being so critical of him. As I said before, Dan is the greatest Top 40 DJ I ever listened to. One other thing I would like to add is that CBS-FM has a different NY Radio Great every Sunday Night from 7-10PM. You might want to listen.

I don't think anyone questions Ingram's greatness or his place in the history of broadcasting but, this is about Ingram mid 60s versus last Sunday night.

The point is NO ONE can be Ingram in the 60's and 70's. He was THAT good.

He sounds that way because he is older. What did you expect him to sound like? People age, their voices sound older, they're not as fast on the air. This was not deliberate, this is what it is.

Someone somewhere said you should just enjoy it for the fact that it is a radio friend on the air, one more time.

I did enjoy listening to Ingram one more time. As for their voices sounding older, last night I listened to Dick Biondi on WZZN which is True Oldies in Chicago. Biondi is 75 and he sounds like he is 45. The same goes for Cousin Brucie who will be 70 in a couple of weeks. I am aware that Ingram had been ill. I met him on the WABC Rewound Cruise and he was walking with a cane. .

Does anyone know what illness Dan is (was) suffering from?

Thank God it isn't up to the insensitive folks who have said things intended for Dan Ingram like "Don't come on the air again" or something unforgivably cruel like "Let the deceased rest in peace" as to whether he will return for another show. Perhaps you've forgotten the controls on your radio or computer which allow you to decode another signal. You can tune out, and lots of other folks will happily continue listening. Armchair critics are a dime a dozen. No, make that a GROSS!

<Does anyone know what illness Dan is (was) suffering from?>

It's something called Gait Apraxia. He hit his head in a fall, which led to brain damage that interfered with the signals from his brain to his legs. That caused additional serious, even life-threatening falls, which then led to more brain damage. 18-months ago he couldn't walk without a walker, or carry on a conversation for more than a minute at a time without losing his train of thought.

After months of grueling physical therapy he has since discared the walker and uses the cane only when he needs to be on his feet for longer periods. And his mind is sharp as ever.

Thanks for that information. I am very glad to hear Big Dan is doing better. He is one of the best if not THE best jock in the biz for all time.

Said in the most admiring tone...Ingram is frist and foremost a New Yawk institution. Like most I was unaware of any health issues. As a kid growing up in NY there was WABC and well....err...what? And at WABC there was Dan Ingram and....err...who?

If he isn't what he used to be well.....neither is anyone else. He'll lose more talent than most of us will ever have.

If you really want to hear some of the "ole CBS-FM" group that still are and sound in their prime, check out The Breeze FM in Monmouth/Ocean, NJ (www.breezeradio.com) . Mike Fitzgerald in the mornings and Randy Davis in the afternoons... CBS-FM can only wish they sounded this good!

Some of the posters here have equated Dan Ingram's cameo to Muhammed Ali coming out of retirement in 1980 to
fight Larry Holmes. Nonsense. You should appreciate the fact that this living legend checked in to visit with the loyal
listeners who annointed him "The Greatest Rock'n Roll Disc Jockey of All-Time." I'd listen to the guy if he were broadcasting via ISDN from an assisted-living facility. Wish the man a long and happy retirement in good health. Any
time he gets behind a microphone and speaks to you, he enhances your life. I don't care if he's on a respirator.
If you want to beat up on an old fool who is should stay the hell out of the pubic spotlight, set your sights on Jimmy
Earl Carter. Richard Nixon re-built his reputation with effective political diplomacy. Jimmy wants to do the same by
selling out Israel and becoming the white Jessie Jackson. President Carter is the old fool not Dan Ingram.

I guess Dan Ingram was doing okay on CBS-FM about two weeks ago, and he is still great. He was on the "New York Radio Greats" for just one show. Just one show, and the game is over. I haven't listened to him when he was on CBS-FM where he was doing weekends a few years ago when it was oldies. I missed him so much.

Dan Ingram was also appeared on WABC Rewound every Memorial Day when he was there along with Mark Simone on the "Saturday Night Oldies" show back in July as a guest. I wish that he will not be playing "Tri-Fi Drums" anymore on the "New York Radio Greats", just the song "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" by Marvin Gaye instead of the famous Dan Ingram closing theme.

As Allan Sniffen would say on last week's "Board Reflections", "He will no longer be on the radio". I wish Dan Ingram will not be coming back to CBS-FM anymore after one Sunday night show, that's it!

Remember when Ron Lundy retired from CBS-FM 10 years ago? He is still living in Mississippi with his wife Shirley. The bad news is that Ron Lundy will not be coming back to do the Sunday's "New York Radio Greats". Ron is not coming back, and so does Dan Ingram.

I missed Dan Ingram when he was on CBS-FM, but he will not be coming back anymore, one show is enough!

On a side note, I find it interesting that the majority of posts in this thread seem to at least acknowledge that Big Dan didn't sound quite up to par, whereas on Alan's board at the time you would have thought the show was just perfect, from all the positive posts. I guess anything else on the NYRMB would have been like talking about George W. Bush doing a lousy job as president on the Sean Hannity board. Sacrilege!

This board is Radio Free Europe in comparison to the NYRMB which is comparable to propaganda during the period of the USSR during communism. The moderator of the NYRMB is comparable to Nikita Khrushchev. When it comes to Dan Ingram, there is no free exchange of ideas and no reality on the NYRMB but, what would you expect from a bunch of radio groupies and radio geeks who frequent it?

Let's keep in mind that Dan hasn't been on the air in over 4 years. I'll bet if he chose to be on the air more regularly, assuming he had the enthusiasm, he would sound much better than he did on that one show on CBS-FM.

In the name of full disclosure I must add that Sniffen did comment that he believes it's time for Ingram to "hang up his headphones", but I originally was pointing out that for whatever reason the overwhelming majority of posters over there thought Dan's show was just "peachy keen". (BTW speaking of the expression "peachy keen" I have to say that politics aside, Bob Grant is one older guy who sounds sharp as ever since returning to the air).
