Dan Mason Takes Over CBS/SF...

As noted here on Radio-Info.com's front page today:

CBS Radio President/CEO Dan Mason will personally oversee his ten biggest markets - Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, L.A., New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.

I know that Dan Mason has already made several moves that bear his imprint on the CBS radio stations in San Francisco. Any word from inside on what shuffles are being made at CBS/SF in light of this latest announcement?

Changes so far...Dan says "be more obvious"...Woody has to change his name to Stiffy, No Name just has to get a name, a painful process he's been avoiding. Upstairs, Narsai will be let go at KCBS for telling listeners it's ok to put ice and even sugar in your wine (Dan had to yarf when he heard that), KFRC will be changing its calls to KFRC- (pronounced "minus") until they can get their ratings up to pre Movin scores, Movin will go country and change its moniker to Rollin, with the rawhide theme played once a daypart (now THAT's country), and KYCY will finally reconcile with their alter calls KYOU and become KYCU, intentionally misabbreviating Intensive Care Unit, which will be comforting to loved ones as it clings to life.

Um...Boss, you might have missed it, but Dan has been supervising NY,LA, CHI and SF since he returned 6 months ago. He's just adding on the rest of the top 10. Not a lot of changes since, other than the obvious KFRC flip of 106.9. He also reinstalled Doug Harvill as market manager. Unlikely that any changes are imminent based on this announcement since he's been involved here on a regular basis.

Read my post again.

Thanks for the morning laughs, dead - please post more often.

Well yes, DX...but Boss asked for inside info on probable changes as regards Dan's, not a suggestion box.

Note to Boss: my read is that with the extra help from Scott Herman, Mason will be simply be able to spend a bit more time on market premises, not necessarily to breath down market manager necks and impliment blanket changes. He's an idea guy whose best come from getting into markets with face to face discussions regarding market sensibilities, etc, as opposed to Hollander who, from a distance, assigned formats under the "if it works here, it'll work anywhere" rule.

So rather than dictating changes: generating ideas. The question is better put, "any insiders know of new ideas coming down the pike with Mason". Of course they might be bad ideas, and/or lead to changes, but that is yet to be seen by even the most cloistered of insiders.

LOL. hahaha.

I wish I could meet Dan Mason. He seems like a great guy. He keeps a office in San Francisco, for the several trips he makes to SF throughout the year. However, it's always doors shut with no lights on. It's big too.

People always duck and cover when he's in the building. It's like, "where's everyone? Oh Dan's in town."

If I met him, I'd like to see his "face to face" interactions first hand.

DEAD,

I'd like to shake your hand. I wonder if I know you? Maybe I do. Maybe I have!! Best post I have seen in a long time.

Keep up the informational comedy. That's the way things should be done. Kudos!

I'm going to have to go ahead and take the high road on this one.

They're not ducking and covering. They're vacuuming their areas. "Dan's in town, let's clean up here now people!" kind of thing.

Ok. I'm learning the meta data. BTW, that large office is the garage.

Careful, DeadAudicy...

You're gonna get a rep around here for being the Dave Barry of radio... ;D

And I'm not makin' that up!

Thanks, RickR, but Dave Barry is at my house right now flirting with my wife and stealing my toast, so I'm not sure I like him so much. Tho I'll admit he is humorous, offbeat, and wheat tolerant.

BossR, changes today include a gsm consolidation, with Live gsm now double dutying for KFRC as Pineda exits. Although a big move, I think it's more budget housekeeping than Mason manipulation. Formats remain intact...so ultimately a slow-news-week story.

Um, "budget housekeeping?" That's the buzz nickname for
"Programming Department" at CBS, right?

Or did I get that incorrectly? I'm just trying to follow along...

Dan is a programming guy....look for him to make more changes on the programming side. This is just the start....he wants very badly to put his footprint on the next big morning show talent in top 10 markets. Look for more syndication as well.
