Dan Mason to oversee CBS Dallas

I just read on Inside Radio that Dan the Man is assuming direct oversight of CBS DFW. Additionally,
CBS is eliminating its regional managers as he will also assume direct oversight of stations in Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. The rest of the stations will be overseen by Scott Herman who takes on the role of EVP/operations. Apparently, this is being done to "streamline the chain of command".

Don Bouloukos has been named Sr. V.P./Marketing for all stations including Dallas. He also programs WFAN in New York.

What does that mean to Laura Morris' job in Houston?

Streamline a.k.a. trim the budget. :p

I wonder what, if anything, this means with regard to programming on the stations.

It means the local GMs in Dallas and Houston report to Mason directly. Purdy's managing stations (as does Morris), so it doesn't really change anything except which person at HQ they get calls from. And Bouloukos wasn't named VP/Marketing, he was named VP/NY Market Manager with additional SVP/GM responsibility for WFAN.

Who didn't see this coming? As the corporate radio blue print continues to fail, all these guys can do is eliminate a group of jobs and have one person take them over. This has been the practice with board ops, DJ's, producers, PD's, GM's, and now regional managers.

When will they eliminate the CEO and just put every decision up for a vote at stockholder meetings?

Excellent question! Now if only there was an equally excellent answer...

Dan is a good radio man. He is from the old school. I think it was a good move. If memory serves me correctly, Dan was the person behind the CBS-FM/New York shift back to Oldies/Classic Hits. I believe he may have also been behind the return of KFRC.

He is the man resposible for changing to Oldies/Classic Hits in New York and he's also responsible for bringing back KFRC, too. Who knows, he may bring back Young Country to 105.3.

Oh i see..."Old School" automatically means he's better. ::)

Yes i've heard he IS good but just because he's OLD SCHOOL doesn't automatically qualify him as a "good radio man".
