Dan McDowell

Do any of you here listen to BaD Radio and Dan McDowell?? I am an old listener of his from Cleveland and Warren, OH back in the late 90's and have followed his career from afar since. I was a very big fan of his and trust he is doing well down well down there. He is still on the air, right?

Anyways, just wanted to see how he goes over down there and if any one has any comments about him or his show.

Thanks.

Hard to believe McDowell's been in Dallas for coming up on 12 years now. Time flies.

Since Norm moved over from KLIF, the Ticket has had the same lineup from 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. for more than 11 years (other than the Greggo firing, which didn't change much). That's an eternity.

I believe Dan was on WHK/1420 Cleveland in its sports incarnation in the 1990s (it's now a Salem conservatalker similar to KSKY in Dallas). I wasn't in the market when WHK was sports, but it was a sentimental favorite in the format.

He was also on 1440 in Warren. I can't remember what calls it had in its brief incarnation as a sports talker. It was historically WHHH, then WRRO, and was WRBP for a while.

Oddly enough, in 2011, it is also owned by Salem as Christian talk/teaching WHKZ, a nearly full simulcast of Cleveland's WHKW/1220 "The Word"...give or take some Mahoning Valley block preaching time and Warren's own Hugh Hewitt.

Yea. I was just up there. WHK is a legacy station. I think it had ties to the old WJW of Alan Freed Days. Was on 850 I believe. They just had a shakeup there. Beacon Broadcasting owner died of cancer. The kids wanted to have nothing to do with radio. Hired a broker and sold the two Youngstown stations for $50,000! They were worth half a million on the open market!

He also owned three Rimshots in Sharon. Pa. Sold to a religious group 1 FM 2 Am. Group keeping the FM and selling the 2 AM's. Haven't heard a word on pricing.

WHK (1420) and WJW (then-850) aren't really connected. 850 is the current home of sports talk WKNR "ESPN 850", which believe it or not was once owned by Salem.

(Unlike when they bought WHK, they kept sports on WKNR - first at 1220, then at 850 - for a few years.)

Re: Beacon...go to my blog and put in "Beacon" as a search term, and all will be revealed. K-Love (EMF) still owns all three Beacon PA stations, though they eventually do plan to sell off the AMs.

The owner of the former Beacon Ohio stations shows up here on the R-I boards from time to time...

1440 is one of the Ex Beacons I believe. Changed to Classic Country The Farm.

As the world's leading expert on the now-lost art of Beaconology (heh!), nope.

You're thinking of WRTK/1540 Niles, which indeed is classic country WYCL "The Farm" now...co-owned under Whiplash Radio (Chris Lash) with Warren's OTHER radio station, WANR-turned-WHTX/1570, now doing standards.

There's a bit of room for confusion here, as 1570 in its WANR days moved into the old WRRO/1440 studios on Courthouse Square in Warren...the same location where the man noted in this thread, KTCK/1310 "The Ticket" host Dan McDowell, plied his trade when WRRO was in there.

WRRO became Salem Christian talk/teaching WHKZ. Salem tried to sell it to a Pittsburgh minister/station owner, but that fell through.
