Dan Patrick Above the Noise recording question?

We take Dan Patrick's above the noise from the Premiere XDS receiver. It normally plays about at 9:something central time, we have it playback later at 11:10 am central time. Everytime it plays back, however, it always has a snippet of Fox Sports Radio on the front end, and sometimes even cuts into the intro of the DP clip.

Anyone else have this problem? Is there a way to trick the receiver into playing silence and then a clean DP Above the Noise cut with not Fox Sports surrounding it? Can't figure this one out.

Other info: We switch our receiver to play nothing back at 11:09 AM so there is a minute of silence prior to playback giving automation the ability to auto-clip the silence.

I'm sure you've already logged into the receiver and checked recording and air times. You could try setting the record time off by one second, but the result will probably sound harsh.

Some time ago, one of my stations was time-shift recording Laura Ingraham and the network stopsets were always off by over a second. I called and complained, but they did nothing. I finally recorded the audio problem, sent it to them, and then rode their a$$ until they corrected it.

Frankberry, first thing I tried :)

I came across probably the least helpful person I've ever encountered. Granted, he was probably distracted by a Jim Rome rant or something but he never spoke unless I prompted him, just sat silent and said the usual "noone else is having this problem, it must be on your end." Thanks for the help.

Yeah, I've checked the timing and adjusted our recording by a second or two to trim it off, but the problem is that the receiver's recording/playout seems to waiver by a second or so so sometimes it works taking that second out, other times it is off enough that it clips off the beginning of the Above the Noise intro and other times it leaves the FSR blip in tact.

I'm not familiar with this program or this receiver, but I might be able to shed some light. I take it you are trying to record a program, and only the program, that should hit the air at an exact time?

I work in TV master control and rarely do our programs hit at exactly 00:00:00 or 30:00:00. I would imagine the feed you record from is being played by an automation playlist and the operator just makes sure the programs are "close". If that's the case, all you can do is record "loose" and an operator will have to mark Start Of Message and End Of Message in your recording. You don't want to hear that, I know.

We have received that "You're the only one with that problem" response from program syndicators before. Later that same day we get an email about a fix for the problem we reported, because others finally reported it, too. But we also just deal with some problems and don't report them.

Unfortunately the XDS can't be set to record at an exact time, because you can only choose the program, and it should record when the scheduled time (in the DP case, it's 9:01:28a to 9:03:30a CT. They try to squeeze it into the TOH break, so DP doesn't have to work a second longer than necessary.
