Unless 1070 gives up the rights to Cowherd there is no way XL950 can carry cowherd. as Long as 1070 is the ESPN affilliate they control the rights to all Talk shows on ESPN Radio

Not exactly.

Emmis already gave up the rights to "The Herd" by choosing not to air it in favor of the [gawd awful] Dan Dakich.

That choice cedes the rights back to ESPN Radio to shop it around to any station ib the market.

Intelligent sportstalk listeners have been without a quality program since The Fan dumped Colin for the Dakich abortion experiment.

I hope XL 950 can bring him back.

Has anyone heard anything about WNDE possibly picking up Tony Bruno (like Dan Patrick, Bruno is now with the Content Factory)? Bruno recently debuted a new weeknight syndicated show (10pm to 1 am eastern time)

I couldn't more strongly disagree with the classification of Cowherd as "intelligent". I think the market's better off without him.

Don't hold your breath for Tony Bruno. There's no good reaosn for 'NDE to bump JT the Brick - he's more popular and already a part of FSR. Picking up DP over Shemon & Washington, however, was a needed upgrade.

Whether you think Colin is intelligent or whatever the point is he made things interesting. He made you think. He's not corporate cookie-cutter "Mike &Mike back and better than ever" Greenberg and Golic or the snoreathon on from 1 to 3. Patrick pretty much tries to remind you of what he was and sometimes has the tangent to do nothing but bash the four-letter operation he onced worked for and made him the popular sports personality he was. When he has Eisen on it's downright "time to switch the channel." I pretty much listen to The First Team on Fox in the mornings, then listen to what mood DP is going to be in before making the switch over to McConnell on WLW; Rome from noon to 3 and then see what JMV's bringing and going back and forth between him, Hannity and Miller.

Any truth to the rumor I heard today...

Raven's salespeople are out pushing a new "satellite-based" format to current advertisers with a debut set for Thursday or Friday?

If so, will that format be True Oldies or Classic Country?

I can't imagine they'd go classic country with Hank hanging around.

If i was WNDE if WXLW goes under id see if i could find a weekend spot or morning or evenings before JT the brick for Rakestraw on WNDE. but then again they might not add anything else. i Feel sorry if WXLW Goes under being first pillaged of ESPN by Emmis, then only after one year on its air waves Dan Patrick. Also if i Was Raven. id move the Freedom 95.9 stuff over to 950 and put the sat based format on 95.9, thus more of Indy can hear Hannity

I doubt Clear Channel will be hiring anyone anytime soon! GM's are in Dallas as I type getting their budgets handed down to them. Word is, (see Tom Taylors dailies) many CC folks across the country will be let go by this Friday. Who'll survive at CC Indy is anyone's guess. With that known, adding folks to the payroll is unlikely.

Here a couple of other reasons why Rakestraw won't be on WNDE. 1). Rakestraw was let go/encouraged to move on, from WNDE back in 2000 or 2001...I don't see him wanting to return, or being asked to return. 2). Putting a live, local talk show on at night is asking for sales trouble. You can't have a talk show interrupted by live play-by-play every other night. It really throws a monkey wrench into those quarterly and annual packages sales folks love to sell 3). With a live show comes 2 folks, not just one. You have the host and a prouder/phone screener...that's about $35,000 for the talent (plus benefits if he's full time) and $9400 or so for the PT producer/phone screener. If they're both full time, you're talking about $55,000 and benys for both...and that ain't gonna happen.

Don't feel sorry Raven. If they're gonna play in the big sandbox with the big kids, they better come to play hard. This is a Top 40 market. You can't do this gig as a hobby just 'cause Daddy bought you a radio station. If you want hobby radio, get a ham license and go chase tornados!

Without even arguing if that statement is true or not...

None of the CC-Indy powers that be from that period are still around.

While I am NO FAN of the three local afternoon sports talk shows, I usually find myself on 950 more often than not when I start scanning the sports stations. I initially thought 1070 would dominate, with NDE a distant second and XLW in the basement. While they all three stay in the basement, XL-950 does seem to be overall more appealing with the flow of the station.

Again, not a fan of ANY of the local afternoon sports shows. They all sound amateurish.

So the Xtra-Large Lunch is a thing of the past now? :'(
TSN Today and Tim Brando evidently have replaced
patrick and the XL Lunch.

I'm not in the industry; does history suggest that a station like WXLW can be profitable, or is this a unique situation due to the Byrds' ownership?

Its hard for me to imagine any way that XL950 is profitable at this point.

At $5 per spot, it would be hard to post a profit, and there are only so many golf courses and casino/horse tracks in Central Indiana.

Well, Cowherd fans are going to be happy. Starting March 16, Cowherd's show shifts down an hour from 9 AM (an hour he does for the west coast only) to 10 am, and will run until 2. WFNI will be airing him from 1 'til 3 - no word on if they'll be doing that by tape-delaying one hour or two.
