Dan Patrick To NBC Sports Radio?

This is an isolated case of a station owner revamping lineups on two stations that just dropped ESPN programming, using NBC Sports Radio at night, and at the same time, opting for Patrick's show in the daytime, when NBCSR is not (yet) on the air.

Anything is possible, especially if enough Benjamins get thrown around, but DP treasures his independent status very much. He controls his fate, to a certain degree without worrying about corporate overlords telling him what to do and say. That's one reason he left ESPN. IF he was to hook up with NBC for his radio show, he would certainly demand autonomy for his content. That seems unlikely, but ya never know. If I'm Patrick, I keep things the way they are unless and until I can't get distributed any more for some reason.

BREAKING NEWS: John Ourand from Sports Business Journal had an interesting tweet an hour ago, retweeted by Paulie: "On the air this morning Dan Patrick confirmed he is leaving Fox Sports Net. He said he'll be on a new national channel soon. That's got to be NBC Sports Net."

While this doesn't affect DirecTV/DP's radio syndication deal with Premiere...yet...it's one step closer to having all distribution platforms with NBC.

DP said something during today's show that he hoped to announce his new network either today or tomorrow. If it is indeed NBCSN, that will effect The 'Lights. Over at The506.com forums, someone suggested that NBCSN might add an early morning show with Michele Beadle to lead into DP's show, with The 'Lights moving to 6-8 Eastern.

Why not just do away with "The 'Lights" altogether? It's a unique concept, but one that's not going to draw people to their sets early in the morning, in an era of on-demand video. It's a sillt name for a program, to boot.

Here's the LA Times story on Dan Patrick.

Sports radio personality Dan Patrick may be getting a new TV home but he's staying put on the radio, at least for now. Patrick's popular morning show had been carried on television by Fox Sports but that deal ended this week (his show will remain on DirecTV's Audience Network). A new deal, most likely with NBC Sports Network , could be announced as early as Friday. While there has been talk of a new radio home too, Clear Channel's Premiere Networks has Patrick for at least another year.

Maybe McLovin and Seaton can't break away from DP and become stars on their own? A midday show or afternoon drive? They can hire a staff and let them talk and interupt them when they have something to say?

FYI: Dan Patrick's TV show debuted on NBC Sports Network yesterday. The day before, NBCSN's channel position on DirecTV (which produces Patrick's show) moved up to 220.

I mentioned this in the National TV topic yesterday.

I saw today, November 4th that DirecTV has moved NBCSN from Channel 603 in the sports lineup to Channel 220, near ESPN's channels and all the Major League channels (NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, Golf, and Tennis).
