Dan Patricks New Show

What did anyone else get out of DP's new web-site? Also, has anyone heard excattly where he will be? Satelite, or another network? :-\

Let's see if DP can get the same guests as he got with ESPN. Remember the Fabulous Sports Babe? She had all the ESPN analysts and writers on the network, and when she went to the Sports Fan Network, she had nothing. Dan
Patrick is in for the biggest challenge of his career. We'll see how resourceful
his staff is when there isn't the support from the worldwide leader in sports.

Amen. And don't you think some of those big name guests were being paid? Not the upper tier, like David Stern.... but regulars, like Peter King, Reggie Miller, Peter Gammons. We'll see who decides to show up out of the goodness of their heart.

Any news yet on what the show will actually be?
I can't see stations lining up for it considering his recent years ratings performance.

Will Patrick have the ESPN hype machine behind him? No. But I doubt Patrick is going to have as much trouble as you think. I'm sure he didn't surrender his Rolodex nor his interviewing skills upon leaving the compound at Bristol, CT.

740 WQTM Orlando has picked up DP. Dumping a Local Show and Fox Sports Morning show.

New 'Dan Patrick Show' debuts 8 to 11 a.m. on WTLX-FM/100.5.

New 'Dan Patrick Show' debuts

Longtime sports TV anchor Dan Patrick returned to the radio airwaves today - without his ESPN affiliation - on "The Dan Patrick Show." Patrick can be heard weekdays from 8 to 11 a.m. on WTLX-FM/100.5.

Having finally had an opportunity to listen to a substantial portion of the DP show, I have to say that I was very impressed with the show. He still gets good interviews, but he is so much better
than Jim Rome or Colin Cowherd as an interviewer. Also, as many of you know, Mike and Mike reset
earlier situations in the last hour so if you listened to M&M earlier, you could switch over to Dan Patrick at 9am and not miss a thing.

Does anbody know if any stations air the show later on the day and stream it !

That web site of his is horriable slow to download and no station listenings or stream etc!

Thanks for any replies .

WQTM 740 airs it live and streams it at 9 AM eastern. I would look at some west coast stations for a later stream.

Got arm twisted into listening to the new DP Show as they want to get more stations to carry it.
I still feel the same way about Dan that I did before, but he did appear to have a bit more relaxed style.
In my opinion he still sounds like a guy who wants to tell you about his guest list, which gives me little reason to care about HIM.
He sounds as if he is fumbling through the USA Today sports section during his opening comments and just offering his take here and there.
A host needs to have a game plan for when the show starts and has to start firing fast balls. Dan seems like it takes him a while to get the engine going and then finds his stride. Unfortuantely that usually results in wasted quarter hours and that is why he saw his radio audience go down when with ESPN while others like Cowherd climbed.
Dan, you can't mail it in. You are not such a big name that people just want to hang on your every word. Get up earlier, prepare harder and stop bragging about your Rolodex.
Cowherd had half the guests, less network publicity and better than 30% more ratings. There is a reason. He comes to work every day like he cares.

Just a few weeks ago, Dan Patrick's radio show was added to the national Fox Sports Radio network. And Patrick himself landed a nice gig working on NBC's Football Night In America pre-game show, culminating with his latest sideline and pre/post game work on the Super Bowl XLIII telecast.

I think Dan Patrick has done pretty well for himself after leaving ESPN & ESPN Radio.

Dan is a host. He is not a personality. Personality's get ratings on radio. Dan is a smooth , professional host.
thats it. On radio, he interviews lots of people, because he has little to say himself. And radio rule number one, don't rely on guests for ratings.
I can listen to him, occasionally, if he's on. But its never a must listen. In fact the five or ten funniest things on his show, have always been said be a guest. Never be Dan. and thats says it all.
He'll be fine without ESPN, but that NBC pre-post game stuff, is not exactly any broadcaster's finest moment. Its network filler. Seriously, does any network need a seven person, pre-game show.

Dan is too smug to be mass appeal. He's very lucky that Olbermann made his career at ESPN and created the illusion that DP was a major talent because of how good that Sportscenter pairing was. When Keith left, Dan got the hell off of SC worried that they would see his ratings drop.

Luckily, he got an ESPN radio deal and then benefited tremendously when Content Factory hired him to be some major radio host. If Sporting News hadn't dumped Tony Bruno, Patrick would have been stuck in neutral with affiliates. Now that Clear Channel is marketing his show, he gets CC stations and also those Sporting news station that wouldn't accept that lame lineup and took Patrick in that slot instead.

Dan is propped up by SI and loads his show with paid guests so he doesn't have to think or be creative for that tough 3 hour radio show he mails in every day.

you obviously know that most major shows/stations pay some of their guests. Mike and Mike, the Herd, WFAN, WEEI, etc. Why are you holding Dan to a different standard?

Wow, you guys are harsh....and that's fine, that's your opinion. But I really like Dan's show. Dan and his co-horts (Seton, Fitzy and Paulie) are a real easy going, entertaining listen for me at work...and most importantly they make me laugh. I like that Dan doesnt try to ram his opinion down the listener's throat....

Good thoughts. Who knew Dan Patrick had so many haters? :D

It's not a bad show at all. Someone said he relies heavily upon his guests...well, why wouldn't he? If there's anyone who'd have the proverbial Rolodex and the credibility to exploit it, it'd be Patrick. I give him some credit for not simply following the typical "know-it-all takes calls from screaming jackoffs" formula.

And to van earl wrong...come on. Tony Bruno was NOT the hot mid-morning property you make him out to be. His SNR show with Mark Willard was good, but it largely existed through the charity of SNR needing some warm body to replace Fox Sports' James Brown (now at CBS). It wasn't Bruno's show that was the one likely getting replaced by DP, it was likely a local show that rehashed whatever the morning show talked about.

I like DP's show.
Partially because, like Nate Wesley just said, he doesn't do the "angry host screams at p.o.'ed callers" schtick.
Because he's got guests to call who are more involved than "Stinky Pete from Tampa."
It's pretty laidback, involves reasonable thinking, and he makes fun of sports personalities when they deserve it.
He does talk about the Playboy Mansion and swimsuit models and incense too much sometimes though. :)

Nate. You need to check the affiliates that Bruno had when he was last on Sporting News before that 2-bit operation went cheap. Once Bruno was off 6a to 10a pacific, Patrick gobbled up most, if not all of his better markets. That's not a shot at Patrick. If SNR had kept Bruno, those stations would NOT have dropped him to add Dan's show. He had StubHub which Patrick picked up as a major backer - among others.
Now that Clear Channel has thrown in the competitive towel and just puts up LA shows to fill time slots, Patrick's association with Premiere gets him in the Fox line-up(along with Rome)..without having to be a Fox property(like Rome) and thus, more stations.

Clear Channel can then sell Patrick, Rome and the previously local LA shows as part of the "network" in an attempt to compete with ESPN as a legitimate brand name.
Anyone who knows radio can see what a total sham this is, but it's part of today's radio landscape. Patrick has benefited from the demise of Bruno as he was a legit morning drive performer already in that same time slot. Fox stations have no choice but to take the KLAC local shows since they have no staff or money to hire better programming for their local markets now that CC has gutted all of it's local-owned sports stations.
Patrick and Rome are legit options for non-ESPN properties, but the rest of Fox Sports Radio is just filler that stations must take, plain and simple. Do you think stations around the country want to hear all Laker talk and local prize give-aways to Kings and Ducks games as alleged "network" programming?
Sadly, our business has forced this kind of crap as the norm and no powerless PD or station manager has any say on deciding which programming is better for them.
Just trying to inject some facts into the normal mis-information and self promotion that some hosts like JT the Brick seem to poison these boards with.
