Dan Sorkin

Anyone hearing any word on Dan Sorkin these days?
Haven't heard him on the radio in a long time--too long. Did he retire?

A quick google uncovered the following links:

A short article about Dan on the American Leasing website, including details of the accident years ago in which he lost his leg (I did not know this). The article is from "August," but it doesn't say what year:

Then a link from the American Leasing website to Dan's website, called "Stumps," which is apparently devoted to amputee humor. Seems appropriate for an old DJ and talk host.

Dan used to fill in from time to time on KGO, but I haven't heard him recently.

Sure wish he was still on the air as he has a great sense of humor.
He had a great sense of humor going back to his Chicago radio days. Would love to hear him back on the air in the bay area.

Hap Harper's website, recently ressucitated (thankfully!) by his wife
Jan, has a "where are they now" link where Sorkin, in his own words, is
"married, 78 years old, and my wife thinks I'm cute."

Dan, we miss ya! Get back on-air somewhere when ya can!

I have communicated with Dan Sorkin a few times recently ... he is reticent to discuss his storied career, politely quashes any attempts to discuss honors and disdains public appearances.

He belongs in both the national and Bay Area radio halls of fame, but recently told me "Don't waste your breath."

You'll find his book, "The Blabbermouths," and his LP album, "Folk Singing 1," regularly offered on Ebay.

DAN SORKIN IS A GREAT GUY. I HAD THE PLEASURE OF WORKING WITH HIM AT KGO IN THE LATE 80s-EARLY 90's. HE TOLD ME HE NEVER FELT COMFORTABLE WITH THE TALK FORMAT. WE BOTH WERE DOING FILL IN AT 810 AT THE TIME.

MANY PEOPLE DON'T REMEMBER THAT HE WAS BOB NEWHART'S ANNOUNCER ON LIVE NETWORK TV BACK IN THE DAY. HE APPEARED ON CAMERA AT THE TOP OF THE SHOW. HE WAS INSTRUMENTAL IN GETTING NEWHART'S CAREER OFF THE GROUND....FEATURING HIM ON HIS (SORKIN'S) CHICAGO RADIO SHOW.
I THINK THE TV SHOW ALSO ORIGINATED IN CHI-TOWN.

DAN ONCE TOLD ME ABOUT HIS SYNANON DAYS....HE SAID IT WAS A GREAT ORGANIZATION UNTIL THE FOUNDER WENT NUTS.

HE WAS ALSO A FIRE FIGHTING PILOT FOR THE FOREST SERVICE FOR A LONG TIME. MULTI ENGINE RATED. HE WAS DOING THAT WHEN I KNEW HIM.

LONG LIVE DAN!

Being a life long Chicagoan I had the pleasure of listening to Dan on WCFL in the late 50s & early 60s. He was extremely entertaining and very funny. I still fondly remember many of the bits he did. Dan used to give the baseball scores without naming the teams. This was long before George Carlin ever did it.
I remember the first Newhart show well & Dan's role in it. Dan had Newhart as a guest on his radio show in Chicago when Newhart was an accountant.
I didn't know Dan did talk on KGO. What timeslot was he on?

I always wondered what happened with the synanon thing? Never did actually hear what really went on there.

By the way Jerry, I enjoy listening to your newscasts whenever I'm in Las Vegas.

RADIOMAN148

THANKS FOR THE KIND WORDS.

DAN DID EVENING FILL IN (VARIOUS SHOWS)ON KGO. i CAN'T REMEMBER HOW LONG HE DID IT. IT WAS SOMETIME DURING MY FILL IN TENURE ON KGO FROM THE LATE '80S TO THE MID '90S

It seems like about 8 years ago or so I heard him turn up on KABL as a big bands DJ. I may be wrong on the time frame but it seemed about like that.

Seems Dan also was at KKSJ 1370 with Jim Lange in the early-'90s, no?

P.S. - KKSJ, San Jose, was MOR (Standards) for a time before going to its
present Spanish format...
