Dan, Tasos & Valerie

Although I still miss Jagger, Mondo & Dean and hope they resurface somewhere in D/FW soon... Dan, Tasos & Valerie (covering for DLR all week) seem to have a synergy between them. They are far better than DLR and far, far, far better than Lex & Terry. If you were listenening this morning... Tasos can really sing!

Could be the forumla that gavin is looking for in mornings. Is it set in stone they have to use DLR in the AM?

Live/Free FM better do something if they want the high ratings. I saw this on Radio and Records: http://www.radioandrecords.com/Newsroom/2006_02_27/rrnews.asp
______________
FCC=Freakin' Clear Channel. Also known as sluggmunki_tx on tv.com

I'm suprised Carrola didn't do better than what was mentioned in that link.

D&T have had the weekend show for a while, so I figured they would be OK as a temp replacement for DLR. But Valerie is the wild card, will she mix in OK, or nut out, (although a Valerie fit would be fun too).
Edited by DILLIGAS on 02/28/06 08:53 PM.

Just heard about the ratings. Did they come out this week? Quite a coincidence that DLR is on "vacation" this week. Maybe they wanted him off the air for the week due to the expected numbers. Your thoughts?

By the way, D, T & V all seem nice and might do a decent show, but not a morning show in this size market.

waaay above the legal limit.

DLR Ratings

Yea sure. The DLR Show just happens to be signed to a 60 day contract and they are going to bump him after his first trend. Get real and think about this.
You can bet that Diamond Dave is signed to a nice, juicy contract that will have CBS Radio jumping through hoops for at the very least one year before they have an out. Keep in mind, they agreed to remodeled studios, perks packages, a ridiculous amount of vacation time plus a lot more we haven't heard about I'm sure. I'll bet the terms of the deal are floating around in one of the trades. I'm just too lazy to look it up.
And really. What kind of ratings can you expect to have right out of the box?
You've just replaced the single most popular talk jock in history. You can't win. At least, not right away.
So even though we hate the show (and it really does stink) I wouldn't expect to see him gone so quickly.

I sort of agree with the judgement on D&T. They're okay for a weekend show, but for a market of this size they don't have the material or the experience.
Valerie could bring them the experience, but she would have to eventually take over the head slot. Dan's just not a strong enough personality to be the leader.

Re: DLR Ratings

Listening today, I think they sound good - though not ready for major market mornings. And it seems Val is already sliding into a more dominate role. If you could make a change - slide P&K to mornings and have D&T w V mid and work Dick Hunter in somehow.

BTW - Those David Lee Roth ratings were NY, LA, Chicago - Dallas comes out Thursday. Those may be different as its David first driving market. Still wont be great. The AQH in NYC was 66,000. I'd buy that audinence for $500 a :60.

P&K 6-10
BDH 10-1
D&TwV 12-1-3
RMS 3-7
Leykis 7-10
Loveline 10-12
RMS Replay 12-4
Loveline 4-6

Re: DLR Ratings

i wasnt trying to say they were dumping him after 6 weeks. What i meant (and I guess i did not explain it very well) is that it is probably good that he isnt on the air this week since the ratings came out and are not good. Might have been best that he is off the air b/c of all the negativity.

I would change up some things about your line up:

A) S-Can P&K , who are not the best fit, anywhere. Gavin needs to actively go after Chris Jagger, whos on the bench since KDGE canned him,not sure about a non-compete, run him 5-9
B) Run either Carolla or Penn Jillette between 9-11
C) Put D&T in 11-2
D) Run Russ 2-6
E) Go live with leykis 6-10
F) Run BDH and the wild ass circus from 10-mid
F) Go live with lovelines feed Sun-Thurs 12a-2a(as its heard EVERYWHERE else), fill in friday either with a best of or bring in some original programming.

Also, ive seen the numbers from NY and Chicago, they are absolutely atrocious. Carolla(who should've been offered the NY gig) isnt faring much better in the West Coast Markets(LA/SF/Vegas).No wonder CBS is suing stern, they're trying to recoup the losses they've received since they put in CZ dave :)

Slambang,

I think you should be PD! I agree with everything on your line up.

Corola is doing worse than DLR. You think you want him, but I dont think you really want him. I was told, but not sure I believe, that Jaggers non-compete was 1yr. In any case Jagger is an expensive talent - which would be hard for Gavin to sell to NY, until they fall out of love with DLR.

I totally agree with Slambang. He knows his radio biz.
With the lawsuit (CBS Radio vs. Howard Stern) one that CBS Radio will lose.
How many of you think the purse strings will get cut?
Meaning who will work cheap!!!
That could spell doom for P&K and Dan and Tasos could skate in rather easily.
RMS is the only "euphemistically speaking" local talent worth a damn on 105.3
But, I still think Gavin will pony up the bucks and get him to the morning drive slot with Valerie. Then, Slambang's line up will get a thorough review.
It's all about the dollars now at CBS Radio.
Party on dudes.....

Thank you for the compliments:) I guess im one of those folks who gives a damn about quality in a product. My whole take on the P&K situation is that they've had more than enough time to improve their product from the overnight move, they've kept up the same old schitck with little to no updating of product. Plus, the "lawsuit" more than likely holds no water in the post "stern" era at CBS, so they'll prolly be shown the door sooner or later.
