Longtime Pittsfield Radio Personality Dana Jones is dead at the age of 83.

The Story here:http://www.legacy.com/berkshire/LegacySubPage2.asp?Page=LifeStory&PersonId=15807190

I worked with him at WUHN/WUPE in the Mid 80's. What a great man. His humor is what I remember most. When he worked on the AM and I was down the hall on the FM, I would often listen in cue, just to get a good laugh! Not to mention, when he'd pass by the FM studio he'd shut off the lights on me.

> WBEC and WUHN in Pittsfield ran a news story on Dana Jones this morning and even included some archived audio from former WBEC GM, Ron Stratton at a dinner in 1972 when Dana Jones was honored for 25 years service. Nice touch WBEC/WUHN. Class tribute to a great guy.

I never worked with him, as he retired before I got in the business.
I waited on he & his wife once when I worked in Lenox.
He was a gentle giant in the industry & in person.
Such a presence about him. And a voice that was undeinably DANA JONES!

I attended the reunion WUPE newsman Larry Kratka referred to. Standing ovation for more than 2 minutes, if I am not mistaken, in the ballroom of the former Holiday Inn on the Pittsfield/Lenox Road.
I was told sometime ago, when WUHN went satelite oldies, from music of your life, neither he or George Church III, whom I worked with @ WBRK in 1991, were allowed to mention the change or say goodbye to their listeners.I could be mistaken, because he is referred to as retiring in 88 & WUHN went oldies in July of 1990.

Nonetheless, the world is a sadder place with the loss of DANA JONES!

We Will Miss You!<P ID="signature">______________

Bad year for Pittsfield DJ's

My wife was Sharon (Steele) Brophy, the morning show co-host at WBEC-FM who died back in mid September.

NO ONE LOSS DOES SUPERCEDE ANOTHER IN THIS INDUSTRY!
My thoughts & prayers go out to both the
Jones & the Brophy/Forst families @ this time.
