Dance Battle in New York Between Mix and KTU

Who do you think will win the dance battle in New York? Infinity's Mix 1027 or Clear Channel's 103.5 KTU? KTU will most likely win the battle, but lately KTU has been playing lots of classic dance. I don't know why though, because Mix is already classic dance. KTU should strictly stick with newer dance music.<P ID="signature">______________

KTU should stick to the newer dance, they sound pretty good at night when they do (during Vic the Latino's show). Don't really understand why they are playing more classic dance, its not like Mix is doing anything ratings wise (they are the lowest rated fm iN NYC)

Actually late on the saturday nite mix shows Mix 102.7 has been been playing more current dance and club songs. But it will be curious to see which station survives the longest cause i think we are going to be in a long corporate battler for listeners and ratings!

Re: Dance Battle in New York Between Mix and KTU/Very easy answer

Mix is probably getting a more desirable demo (in other words, not between the ages of 12 and 17) and KTU wants a piece of that. Without abandoning the younger audience, they want to pump up the older audience a bit to make the station more desirable to advertisers (which equals a more profitable station, which equals KTU hopefully not flipping to yet another Adult Contemporary format).

LOL, some of you post some of the weirdest things on here.
Seriously now, KTU's 25-54 ratings are ABOVE those of Mix, and the same of course goes for KTU's lead with the 18-34 crowd. KTU however does NOT attract a big teen following when compared to sister stations like Z-100, Power 105, or stations like Hot 97 and the new 105.9.
KTU has a much more established and loyal audience, and far outbills Mix 102.7.

FACT!

Add TO that fact that 'KTU is more varied in dance music (playing the currents) whereas Mix sticks to the Disco 92/Hot 103-97 days of dance. No question Mix has improved and fine tuned the format but 'KTU will continue onward because (and I hate to say it this way in terms of recent format flip going on here in NYC) but they are the "Jack" of dance music because the currents are there along with the classic stuff.

Re: Dance Battle in New York Between Mix and KTU/Very easy answer

What's so weird about it? It's hard to deny that a station is trying to attract an older audience when they add a bunch of Gold. But, unlike some Mr. Know-It-All's, most of us don't have access to the 25-54's. That's why I used the word "probably." Hopefully none of this has ruined your day.

Far be it from me to tell anyone else how to post--especially those with the 25-54's, God knows--but...is it really necessary to end your post with "FACT!"? Ugh.

Re: Dance Battle in New York Between Mix and KTU/Very easy answer

What is so weird is people saying they're adding older songs... they HAVEN'T added anything, anyone who REALLY listens to KTU knows they've had a "mix" of new and old fast and slow since they signed on in '96... Which is why they've been such a successful billing station, they have good numbers in the right demos and its not, nor has it ever been with the kids!

If you're not a NY'er just listen to 'em online (www.ktu.com), the same format they've been playing for years with or without WNEW.

Hasn't Mix had their shot to take a chunk out of KTU?

They haven't. KTU is actually getting stronger.

No battle. No contest.

Everyone had it in their head that there would be some massive radio war when Frankie got to Mix. It never happened. Blue is gone. Let's move on.

And yes, KTU has been playing Gold's forever. They may have stepped it up when Mix signed on. But I didn't really see them do anything drastic.

Re: Dance Battle in New York Between Mix and KTU/Very easy answer

I really don't have any idea what they play. I've very rarely been able to hear them but I've always liked them when I could.

I was just throwing out a safe answer without actually checking to see if what they were saying was even true!

I forgot I could listen to KTU online. Thanks for the reminder!
