The Grammy's have always been about the artistic side to things.

It's the AMA's and the VMA's that's all about popularity and sales, thus that's where you'll see the pop angle and not the artistic value, per se.

That article doesn't say much. REM, The Beatles, Bob Marley sold more albums than Louie Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davis, and Frank Sinatra. Technology has always made it much easier to buy, and consequently sell, music today compared to back in the day; and new music usually outsells old. As a result, lower quality songs of today have a better chance of outperforming better songs of the past in sales.

I have to agree with this.

I don't think any of the current artists would have as much sales as they did if it wasn't for the fact that it is now convenient for people to just "log on", go somewhere such as iTunes and purchase/download the music that way, as opposed to having to physically travel to a record store to purchase a '45 or an album.

The Barbra Striesand example? Love her or hate her she has a separate fanbase as those groups mentioned. None of her fanbase are going to buy albums from Pearl Jam, Johnny Cash or Tom Petty, and vice versa.

ROTF at the end with Justin Bieber :)

I don't mean to bust any chops but...

If it was A David Guetta type getting a nomination you guys will be HYSTERICAL over it. And then people want to talk about the politics of music lmao.

It's a no win situation with the politics :D . People are going to criticize for whatever reason, which in a way makes music, in general, that much more fascinating because everyone has differing tastes and in that sense the best we can do is "agree to disagree" :)

Be content that the nominations are "CURRENT"
and is not . . . the mainstream catching up,
ie: "new" artist "wynter gorden" Yolanda-D.Cup (no speak)...or
the "(singer of stereo love)"
the name slips me... they are too popular, but
another example would be "far East movement" (lol)
-
wasnt it last year, the MUSE (being "the new artist") of the year,
lol..when they already were well established on cdn.radio
for about 2 years already...
