Dance/Dance-friendly radio airchecks transferred to imeem.com

Over the past several weeks, I’ve uploaded dance & dance-friendly radio airchecks to a bunch of different Web sites and posted the links here. I’ve decided to put them all on imeem.com – this seems to be the easiest and most convenient method to upload and share. You can stream the airchecks (instead of having to download them), and I don’t have to break them up into 10-minute segments (which is necessary to put them on Youtube.).

Here’s what I’ve got on there so far:

KNRJ “Energy 92.7 & 101.1” Phoenix

Final telecast of the “Resurrection Flashback Lunch” (10-29-08)

WMGI “100.7 MIX-FM” Terre Haute
(Dance-friendly aircheck...not the Hot AC-ish one that I posted a few days ago. Thanks SO MUCH to Scott Zorn for sending this one to me!)

More to come!

Thanks man.... Imeem is just awesome for airchecks,, I always like you and Jason Harpers Rhythmic dance airchecks..... Ive heard them all but the one for MIX FM,, which I need to listen to.. That was the best station Indiana ever had.. Fort Wayne tried doing Dance twice with Energy 102.9 during the same time as Energy Chicago,, but surprisingly the Fort Wayne Energy lasted about a year longer... It used to focus on 90s house and played the long 10 minute mixes,, No Jocks, and Over modulated imaging.. They added Jocks and a bit of hip hop toward the end calling it Fort Waynes Hottest music,, but it was already too late.. During this same time Fort Wayne had Z-102.3,, AKA Fort Waynes Dance Beat,, which was actually a really good station with dance and Hip Hop and Rhythmic POP,,, but the 3kw signal from 25 miles north in Auburn didnt even stop on the seek button on car radios... Z-102.3 moved to all Hip Hop toward the end,,, and it died actually before before Energy 102.9 did.

Sorry to be so off subject, but since both stations didnt have websites or streams, many people didnt know these stations existed.. Same as the Hawaii Dance Station WILD 105.5,,, no one hardly even in the biz knows about it,,,, no website,,, no stream... But it is still Dance to this day.

Anyway, hearing those classic sweepers almost brought a tear to my eye...hehe... They had such awesome Imaging,,,,, The singing Jingles..(100.7....THE NEW...MIIIIX FMMMMM)... And the real quick TOH ID WMGI Terre Haute-Indianapolis said really quick... You notice that even though the station was more of a dance station, they always positioned themselves as HIT MUSIC... They had the same exact Imaging package that WDRQ Detroit had at the time, and both stations sounded similar... There was a few songs on that aircheck I completely forgot about.... Remember TIA-Slip N Slide,,, to the kids the song was about the slip in slide water toy,, but adults new the song was all Sexual.... I think TIA-Slip N slide was ahead of its time,,, WMGI is the only station I ever heard it on.. No stations would touch it.. I think if the same song was released today it could go National on Rhythmic and CHR stations..... WMGI was very heavy on Euro Dance,, but also played alot of freestyle,, both 80s classics, and the new mid 90s freestyle....

I remember when they later transitioned from Dance/Rhythmic to more of an Adult Top 40,, The Day I got in my truck and heard them playing Peter Gabriel-In Your Eyes... I knew the Dance Lean was being phased out....

Did you see the e-mail that I sent to Scott Zorn or something? :) What you wrote above is essentially the same thing that I told him. I guess some dance radio enthusiasts think alike! As I mentioned to Scott, it was just funny to hear these relatively obscure dance songs on a station using standard CHR jingles and positioning itself as "Continuous Hit Music".

I sometimes get goose bumps when listening to a great jingle/sweeper or a great song on these old airchecks.

I think if the same song was released today it could go National on Rhythmic and CHR stations.....

I've wondered about this for a while - not just for dance music, but music in general. How often are songs (in their original format/sound) re-released years later, and is there any measurable rate of success for this?

I had never even heard of "Slip n Slide" before this discussion started...now that I've listened to it on aircheck, I want a copy! I LOVE songs that are the pure definition of "double entendre"...especially this one because it's just so...wrong. ;)

I don't know why I just thought of this, but does anyone else remember the song "Round and Round" by Miranda?

Heck ya! Miranda bumpin' on B-96, Chicago's Dance Beat! I have an aircheck of that song somewhere!!! Forgot all about it!

And Tia had another hit, not as good as the first on that MIX-FM aircheck "As I watch you dance". Not bad though. Side B.

I need to find my B-96 airchecks. They are truly, hit record, leave the room and see what you get. Always dance, always awesome with a whole tape of their mixshows!!
