Dance Factory on NINE FM

I just read in Robert Feder's Chicago Sun-Times media column that the Dance Factory show has been expanded to Fridays (early Saturdays) from 10pm until 5am. Any thoughts?

If it's the only thing the turns a profit, why don't they just make the station all-dance?

please, no energy/dance bashers...just seems silly to ignore a profitable format while having one that bleeds cash.

It's profitable because someone is paying to put it on the air. I am not bashing energy/dance. But "profitable" for a brokered timeslot means that someone is footing the bill and selling their own spots. Doesn't mean it will work as a "real" format.

I think it's awesome that it will be on Friday nites too. As for making the station all dance the format will work if it's done right i mean you do the dance flashbacks, throw in some freestyle and new dance and some house. Chicago does have a good house/club scene and the station will do good. first you find dj's that are passionate about dance music. that way the interact with your audience well. As for turning a profit i know that Energy 92.7&5 did sell advertising to only a small portion of the area if you did the whole listening area and did not charge a arm and a leg for air time i mean being reasonable for the charge you can be sucessful. I know N.Y has 2 dance stations and L.A. has one why not Chicago We are the 3rd Largest market in the U.S I know some of you will Poo-Poo this idea and say that it won't work. it will I remember when Energy Came around people said it wouldn't last 6 months hell everyone still talking about it

New York's dance stations are more like Jammin Oldies (see Love FM)

LAs is now Indie 103.1 (alternative)

San Francisco still has one.

Chicago has 2 dance themed stations, however both are on HD Radio. 96.3-2 is just back to back dance while 103.5-2 is a gay themed format heavy on dance music.
