Dance-friendly CHRs?

WKQI has an underground show on BOTH Friday and Saturday nights!! So far, this is my favorite song I learned from them: Mischa Daniels feat. J-Son - Where You Wanna Go

Even their regular mixshow format is very friendly to my true style of sound! They even played Ahmad Belvin. ... .. !! ;D (Ok now I know I've already lost everybody).

MWC, you make a good point about Rhythmic Top 40s. And its not just Chicago and Miami: Even Sacramento outlets KSFM and KHHM has started to open up to Dance-pop tracks and already one of their most spun tracks on their playlists La Roux's "Bulletproof." And if you check out KBFM/Brownsville, they have "We No Speak Americano" and "Stereo Love" on their playlist.

OK WKQI, is definitely on my top choices of best CHR's, along with WBBM, WPOW, and even WXXL - at least when it comes to mix shows. I will be careful because good (weekend) mixshows doesn't mean the regular playlist is as "tasty". After all, WWWQ has a good Saturday night mixshow. I just found it odd they played a lot of grime and drum & bass on there last Saturday night.

Wow, never knew there were so many stations out there putting Phoenix to shame!

By the way, about time "Memories" by Kid Cudi & David Guetta started picking up OUTSIDE of California. Maybe I should've waited just one more week before saying what I did about it in another post - if you didn't see it, then just forget it. I'm glad Swedish House Mafia is being picked up as well.

That song is very mainstream. It's closer to pop than pure dance. We've been playing it on Energy 98 and put it in on KVBE last week. Underground...now that's funny. ;D :D :) :p

This is what I get for not explaining this in full detail!  ;D I didn't think about it earlier, but I meant to say that I learned the song from WKQI, then in a separate paragraph, mention that they have an underground mix show, or "techno show" as the on air guy called it. I was talking more in regards about WKQI as a whole when I said "this is my favorite song I learned from them", not just the mixshow (although that is specifically where I did learn it from actually, but I still like to give the chr as a whole credit since they are the ones with the mixshow). I would not say it's my favorite song in general, but it is my favorite song I learned (so far) from that station. The song itself may not be underground, but the dance show is, by their definition, and I'm not about to go to Detroit and argue with them about it. Honestly, I thought the song was a new remixed song by Drake or someone similar when I first heard it, so I knew it couldn't be too "underground", unlike Enrique Iglesias's "I Like It" remix on 99.1 KGGI after midnight during the Dj Lynwood Earthquake mix ;D (I don't like naming names, but... I just did!)

Actually, I'm not even sure if the people on WKQI even consider their dance shows to be "underground". I'm just used to every chr station with a dance show calling it and underground dance show that I just went ahead with it out of habit. I haven't heard (or seen) anyone at WKQI do it yet, though. How ironic, as I type this, they BUST OUT with the Enrique Iglesias "I Like It" remix on Ministry of House on WKQI. So far, the only place I haven't heard the remix was Phoenix... and this is an accurate description of how I feel about that -->

KIIS is ok on Saturday nights. Surely better than... well, let me stop criticizing chr mixshows and go back to saying nothing unless it's a positive thing on these boards like I once did.

KDM, is 101.5 JamZ any dance-friendly? I remember you said you heard "Acapella" by Kelis in the mix on JamZ. Doesn't Power 98.3 have a electro mixshow?

I wish we had mixers from Detroit and Chicago down here in LA. Alex Dreamz played a lot of dance on Friday nights on KIIS, but I bet he's gone now... Other than SF and probably SD, we don't have much dance friendly mixshows in the west coast. :(

Power 98.3 has NO electro show. They do have "The Pulse" just like WKQI does during afterhours "deep into Friday night", but the only difference is "The Pulse" on WKQI is dance, while "The Pulse" on KKFR is underground hip hop. Sometimes, Saturday nights only, you can get 10-15% of what you used to get when they used to have their electro-hip hop and house show. KPWR is more dance friendly and interesting than KKFR, according to mixshow playlist arrangements.

101.5 JamZ stopped playing "Acapella" in the mix a long time ago (if you consider some months a long time). However, strangely, but delightfully, Cascada has somewhat been brought back into some mix show rotation. I wouldn't say 101.5 JamZ is exactly dance friendly, although they did play ADD SUV by Uffie ft Pharrel a few minutes earlier with "I like that" and "Bullet proof" (Dave Aude) in the same set with Kid Cudi. I'd say they are electro-hip hop, and somewhat remix dance mixshow friendly, but you will not hear Wynter Gordon dirty talk or any Swedish House Mafia like on KIIS with Dj Drew. There's pretty much only a few things that WKQI plays (BEFORE their dance mix show) that KZON doesn't play. Without JamZ, I'd consider Arizona radio excitement to be drastically lower than it is right now. There's really no other rhythmic top to depend on here fo... anyway, here's one of the JamZ dj mixes, here: http://7000express.multiply.com/journal/item/65/Dj_Phlava_End_of_Summer_Electro-Lytes As you can see, the potential for something to happen is there. JamZ may not have the most mixshow airtime of them all, but the "little" that they do does outshine the rest of the current chr's that exist here. KYLD is pretty much the same as KZON and KDON, mainstream mixshow-wise.

Also add hit 106 whtg 106.3/106.5 they are dance friendly

And sadly, Hit will be no more since they will tweak themselves as the "new" B98.5 in Ocean County. I do remember B being dance friendly back in their period. I wonder if they will still keep the mixshow DJ's and still have a dance friendly playlist. Either way, Monmouth will be out of the picture, but they won't be cut off with their dance mix ;)

Add Los Angeles to the list of places with dance friendly stationS! Super Estrella, what I'd consider a spanish CHR, has an afterhours dance show from 1-4.

Lets see if the brand new La Kalle here in Phoenix can bring in some dance as well since they now have more english music than KVIB. You already know the pop and urban latin stations will at the least be dance friendly to some extent.

La Kalle 95.1/KGSX San Antonio is very dance friendly. They used to mix continuously from 5pm Friday - 11:59P Sunday. They seem to have cut the mixing time in half, but they still mix a lot.

So far, two Daft Punk songs have been added into KZON's REGULAR rotation, ever since they've been adding in a few classic rhythmic tracks to their playlist. I know the new Rihanna is an obvious new/current hit, BUT... it's still a dance track and KZON plays that, too.

You can probably add B98.5 which just "re-signed" on today after moving from Hit 106. Hit 106 played a number of dance tracks and had a 5pm mixshow, now with B98.5 it sounds almost like a Party 105. Plus they play some "back in the day" classics, heard Crush "Jellyhead" and Le Click too.
For a CHR they play remixes of pop songs too, such as a remix of "Fireflies" by Owl City.
Plus they kept the 5pm mix now called The PRIME time mix with DJ Prime.
I think some of these guys have been listening to Party 105.

Did you look at their facebook page? I kind of flooded their comments with my internet stream. Funny how my listener slots sky rocketed in periods.

I know this one might not be in the U.S., but I'm really liking the sound of Z103.5. They sound great! The presentation of the station reminds me of B96 Chicago. I think I'm starting to like Canadian radio (Kiss 92.5 Toronto sounds good too).

Might add 92.3 NOW to that list since they just played "We No Speak Americano" just now. Not the first time they've played a dance track.

96.5 Kiss FM Cleveland. Tracks in rotation: Richard Vission-I like that,Kid Cudi-Memories,Far East Movement Like a G6. Heavy on the rhythmic pop titles and has a daily mix show from 5-6pm besides the weekend mix hows.

WHAT IS A DANCE FRIENDLY CHR?

I guess it's time to present a new question:

WHAT IS CONSIDERED A DANCE-FRIENDLY CHR TODAY?

After all, it's probably time to redefine the phrase, now that there are a bunch of stations that COULD be considered that by default, based on what has happened with music.

KZON and KZZP use "Stereo Love" in the mix. They both play Daft punk, along with Rihanna, Mike Posner, Yolanda Be Cool, David Guetta... Like a G6, Club can't handle me, I like it, Dj got us falling in love...etc. However, no Deadmau5, Afrojack, Wynter Gordon, Bailey...

So, what would we consider a dance friendly CHR today?
