It is probably due to the tight competition between Radio One's WDJX-FM 99.7 and Clear Channel's WZKF-FM 98.9. Clear Channel's WZKF-FM (KISS 98.9) is almost tied with Radio One's 'DJX in the ratings and DJX is consistently losing ground in the Louisville market CHR battle. KISS 98.9 has been leaning more to the Dance/Rhythmic side of CHR while 'DJX has been leaning more to the Pop side of CHR. Also, WZKF-FM (KISS 98.9) has been carrying a Saturday night mix show for a while. I am assuming that 'DJX has been leaning in the Pop-Rock side of CHR so they will not compete so much with sister station hip hop WGZB-FM 96.5, which also has a Saturday night mix show. However, Radio One's WGZB-FM (B96.5) is basically all hip hop with very minimal Rhythmic/Dance music. Maybe, Radio One is hoping they can regain some of the listeners from KISS 98.9 by adding more Dance-oriented music to 'DJX and perhaps draw more of the CHR/Pop audience to their sister Hot AC station WXMA-FM (MAX 102.3).

997-DJX has always been Dance friendly, so thats no surprise. I am surprised to read that KISS 98.9 is playing any Dance though, I think I would have to hear that to beleive it, they always have been mainly a Hip Hop station, with only 2 or 3 pop-rock titles in rotation. My parents house is on the Fringe of Kiss 98.9 signal, so I will have to check this out, next time im back in Indiana. I cant get 997-DJX there at all though, too much interference from Z-99.5 Indianapolis.

I agree with both responses..DJX has tended to be "dance friendly" but that all but almost disappeared after it's Jacor days and Chris Shebel in the mid 90's when for a number of years a dance mix via Hot Mix was used on saturday nights..by the late 90's and early 00's dance was all but gone from the station with the exception of odd ball chart hits i.e. DJ Sammy/Lasgo that come to mind..and even in those instances if a "soft version" was available it was the prefered version..as far as Kiss 98..not much dance is played..of only the last few years I can only recall Lasgo and the uptempo DJ Sammy version being played..as far as their mix show it's heavily street leaning with zero dance..surprisingly to the outside Louisville would look like and the odd man out for dance..but with it being the largest metro area in the state and large gay population..a dance leaning Top 40 I always thought was a no-brainer..a Diva hybrid would work here easily
