Dance music has taken over Chicago

I commute through the loop at least twice a week and I usually just plug in my phone and blast away to Fusion. My FM transmitter is overcome by interference in a 5-block patch between Navy Pier and Grant Park. Usually.. I let the static take over for a couple of minutes (rather than torturing myself with FM music) but this time, I decided to "check up" on FM radio. I have 3 presets on my FM receiver; B96, KissFm, Themix and the transmitter signal. So I'm flipping between the presets yesterday..and what do I hear? Between KissFm, The Mix and B96, I hear Taio Cruz, Ke$ha, David Guetta, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Stereo Love, Robyn....It seemed like I *could not* get away from Dance music for a minute. Yes, dance music is in an upswing. A couple of months ago I said here that "B96 needed a revival...a dance music revival". We'll damn.... it got it's revival. It has also made me wonder—between the main FM's, Dance Factory and Fusion. Could Chicago be the most dance saturated city in the country? A setup like this....but in New York would resuscitate dance music nationally. Whats the Dance music status in other markets like right now?

Taio, Ke$ha, Katy, Gaga & Robyn are pop, not dance. They have tempo and are a great bridge to dance. Guetta has been producing pop acts lately, and Edward Maya is a one-hit wonder. When CHR starts playing real dance songs that come from DANCE then I'll believe it's on the rise. Increased bpm of pop doesn't = dance.

All that being said... I'm glad to see what we have today. It's much better than a couple of years ago.

Well I won't argue that since I partially agree. Especially since Dance-pop is the norm for pop everywhere else in the world. However, hard core dance acts like September, Cascada, Chris Willis, Ducksauce and Edward Maya are also getting FM support and it's a far cry from the travesty FM radio was the last five or six years ago. It is MUCH better than a couple years ago.

This will give you a better idea of what other stations are playing:

Just hit the United States link at the top and then pick a city.

Is Duck Sauce really a cross over record? Don't get me wrong, I like the song but Id rather see songs like Afrojack or an Alex Gaudino on Top 40. I think Duck Sauce would burn too fast

Because Steisand is a stupid, funny type of record,, not knocking it as I was the first to mention this record here.. CHR radio strives off of stupid' Funny songs and fast burners.. Im sure im not telling the pro's anything they dont know,, thats why im only stating this as my two scents. Do I like the record--YES,, is it the best Dance song out their right now,,, Far From It... The video is incredibly lame,, and sometimes a video can make or break a song.

Well, I guess I'm not in Chicago because there was a HUGE decrease in "stereo love" play today. Still much better than the amount of plays it receives in Atlanta, which could still be counted by hand, even if you lost all your fingers. ;) At least we've got the new Enrique Iglesias, Chris Brown, and "who's that chick" by Rihanna playing in Phoenix (unlike, yet again, another region of the U.S. that I know!).

Well that's good. It just seemed like a lot less because for about two days, it was like every time I turned on the radio, there the song was, or it eventually came on soon. I haven't really been following KMVA though, so I was mainly talking about the KZON plays.

KZZP Phoenix also played it a few times today.

97.1 AMP Radio just played Stereo Love. I don't know since when, but it was just played minutes ago. I'm guessing most of the CBS CHRs are playing it.

I haven't heard KIIS play it yet, only time I hear it is during the "Friday Night Party".
