DANCE NEEDS TO DITCH HIP-HOP

I said I would never post on this board again.....and I know you guys are going to tear this thread APART, but here goes anyway. This is mostly here for YOUR discussion, as I will not be responding further or checking your comments.

It seems for the past few years Dance music has been handcuffed to Hip-Hop. Now, many are wondering why Dance music seems to be suffering. Could this FORCED union between and acceptance of Hip-Hop be part of the problem? YES! Instead of embracing what is not truly Dance, we should be going in the other direction and distancing ourselves away from Hip-Hop.

Let Hip-Hop champion Hip-Hop! Dance should not be carrying the Hip-Hop banner in the Dance
parade.
Dance should be promoting genuine Dance music and artists. We are better off with no
radio support at all instead of radio support of quasi-Dance, remixed Hip-Hop fodder. Some are
finally seeing the light, but many others are still LOST IN THE WOODS.

This unnatural blending of Hip-Hop and Dance is only working for radio (not Dance). Should Chevron
embrace BP? Should Macy's embrace Sears? Should Dance embrace Hip-Hop? No, No and NO!!!
Supporting all these half-Dance songs and artists (who could care less about Dance) is and never
was a good idea. Cut the ropes. Send Hip-Hop out to sea. Bring back the beat and bring back the honor.

THE END

I got a little surprise for ya. How about a track that fuses Dance, Hard Rock, and Hip Hop? Check out the mash-up of Eminem feat Rihanna Vs Guns'n'Roses "Love The Way You Lie vs Paradise City"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLr5kMyDRXk&feature=related

Buahahaha. That mash-up is currently Top 3 at RGR FM, one of Belgium's leading Dance stations.

Keep in mind there have been thousands of Dance releases this year without any Hip Hop in them. It's your fault for not seeking it out.
You don't like the current state of mainstream Dance on CHR/Pop and CHR/Rhythm radio? That's not our problem, but I can tell you that it's definitely NOT hurting our scene.

I didn't care for that "Love the way you lie" remix. However, this has been one of my "secret favorites", or guilty pleasures for quite some time now; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FCKt0cdu6s As a matter of fact, while I was out shopping the day after Thanksgiving, that Marilyn Manson "Tainted Love" track came on in the car audio section of Fry's Electronics and I had to stand there, listen, and feel the bump from it. Of course, it does have a touch of that futuristic late 90's Timbaland style beats, but with heavy guitar rock on top of it. If that song were released during the late 90's hip hop meets rock craze, I bet it probably would've gone further and receive more attention than it did. I could imagine someone rapping on the track.

Then why waste my time responding if you aren't going to see what we say? I have my thoughts on this but I also feel that if someone brings up a question, that they should be able to at the very least VIEW..even if they don't care to respond.

I have my views on this. And while I do consider myself a "purist" when it comes to dance; let's look at the reality of where we were all these years and where we CAN be in the future. I'll leave it at that. But I'd leave Gregg alone since he'd only reply to the answers HE wants to hear and not to opinions that may conflict.

i like to look back at past instances where other genres fused for some sort of precedent. When Run DMC and Aerosmith collaborated together it gave a boost to Hip Hop on Top 40 radio.I The same can happen from these hybrid songs if dance music can figure out how to take advantage of the trend. The more exposure to underground dance elements on mainstream radio will open up the non-club going, dance seeking crowd to being more open to the dance sound on radio.

That's what the pop-remixes are for :)

When you get the "name" producers to take those elements and fuse it somehow with popular artists, it works! That's why, in part, dance music is starting to break through. David Guetta stands out in terms of the underground fusion to the mainstream element. And there are certainly more of them out there that need that exposure. But we still have to get to those 20 something girls with their BFF's in a club. If we can "hook" them to the sounds and they go nuts, everyone will follow and corporate will "pay attention" since that's the $$$$$$.

Oh yes...We all remember you saying you won't post anymore...We were all so heartbroken that Gregg75 will be MIA, as it is such a rememorable name with insightful posts!

First of all, your subject is SOOOO ignorant. You act as if there is a "group" that controls dance, and this "group" decided to add hip hop to the format! It's called Hip Hop becoming open minded to our world. Stop being such a Dance Nazi.

Have pop remixes ever really worked?

1. Fans usually like pop songs in their original mix and are not too keen to "sped up" versions of a Top 40 song.

2. Dance fans are even less accepting of cookie cutter remixes of Top 40 songs (count me in).

3. Most of these remixes air on late night weekend mix shows when less people tuned in.

As opposed to the pop dance songs in their original mix that have done so well this year. Why? Music is trending uptempo and these songs are in their original mix uptempo so there's no comparing to a slower tempo version. These songs are meant to be uptempo and are sung that way. Forced sped up mixes just don't sound good.

Maybe next year will have some less poppy sounding dance songs on Top 40....it's all baby steps 8)

Guess I have to throw out my C+C Music Factory CD's.  I hate forced unions.  Oh, and my Lisa Lisa & The Cult Jam and 2 Unlimited too. Next thing you know, cats & dogs will be sleeping together. Gross!! Would their offspring be called a pussyhound?

This is why people should just leave Nelly "just a dream" alone. Yes, I've heard the saying, "you can do anything if you put your mind to it", but that saying is not entirely true because you cannot make that song into a decent sounding dance track.

I don't know how any genre could possibly or sensibly ditch another genre. I guess, in one's imagination, a person could reject certain sounds and discriminate them from each other, but in the real world, there is no way you could possibly fully stop people from producing or singing or wanting to be a part of crossover tracks, regardless of how good or horrible they seem. Even if you are successful at creating some sort of a "music boycott", where certain artists & producers refuse to not let certain thing happen with music, not everyone is going to abide by the boycotter's wishes.
