The original version of OMG has a modernized version of the dance music sound. It's something that works today that would've sounded a bit weird back in the 90's. The OMG instrumental is to modernized dance music what Flo Rida's "Low" or Ciara's "get up" is to modernized booty bass. As a matter of fact, you should have no problem mixing those two songs back to back. I did used to hate OMG when I first heard it, but it grew on me. Sometimes I still get stuck on my old ways of how things "should" be. Another example of modernized dance sound is David Guetta's "getting over you". Notice a lot of people are using that type of melodic arrangement similar to certain portions of "getting over you" in modern dance music as well. Eventually, you'll look back and see how these whole sound and style will mark this time period in history, the same way many of the 90's dance hits all seem to have "that sound of that time" and a lot of the 80's stuff did as well. Too bad the 00's did not really have a strong dance image to fall back on, so (unless you are a deep fanatic who really gets deep into it) what you are hearing now will surely outshine the 00's time period and there will always be that "gap" from the euro dance to the now time period when it comes to talking about or giving examples of dance sound trends in general.
I do notice some dance artists have jumped on that OMG beat style pattern, and I'm talking SPECIFICALLY about the drum beats. However, I do think Rihanna was way ahead of everyone with that style in the new generation era, with the release of "S.O.S."
As far as "OMG" being played on a dance station, I'd say if Rihanna's "SOS" was played on a dance station, then of course "OMG" should be played. It's definitely rhythmic material, but should also get dance airplay. In many ways, "OMG" is more dance than "SOS". I even think "boom boom pow" is dance radio material, ESPECIALLY if that dance station was using any of the Outhere Brother's tracks at any point in time. I say dance stations go for it. It's time to replace the "yeah" remix, that.. I'm sure many dance stations are still using...
