Dance Pirate on 92.9 Trenton, NJ area

I recorded a few airchecks of this station and will upload them soon. It sounds like a Zara Radio type of software they're running with no sweepers and screaming jocks like the others. Can be heard from the Capital Complex in Trenton to Six Flags in Jackson. Not sure from which points it can be heard on the turnpike.

Yeah and I know absolutely nothing about where he is getting his material.... Or the Pirate on 106.5 in Louisville KY.... ;) and the one on 93.5 near Bloomington Indiana..... And its not Zara Radio, its a simple 4 gig Phillips mp3 player they are getting their feed from me..... http://www.ustream.tv/channel/radio-active-93-5-dance-music I know of several other pirates that play dance, but if I tell you who and where,, I have to kill you.....lol.... NO Seriously.... Most of us know each other, either personally, or online. or know someone who knows them,, Small world.. Here is the myspace site for the one in Indiana http://home.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=home if that doesnt work, try myspace.com/mysteryfm Its no longer called Mystery FM,, and you can read about why that is Id love to add a few of you,,, but if your a jerk or a snitch I will block you..... Im interested in joining Tony Santiago's Dance Coalition... So be all means Tony,, hit me up..

Mid West Clubber, are you affiliated with the 92.9 pirate in Trenton?

This pirate has been on for years, and the FCC doesn't do jack. Trenton to Jackson is 15 miles! I notice that pirates in bad cities are never shut down, but pirates in good areas like Erie, PA will be shut down first. It's funny how I used to run a pirate on 92.9 5 years ago from West Windsor, just 10 miles from Trenton, but it had nowhere near the range of the Trenton pirate.

When I tuned into them on a couple Saturday nights in January, there was a screaming jock and it called itself "92.9 The Beat". I think they broadcast live from a club on Saturday nights. It's usually on the air some weeknights and weekends. I have not been able to find out anything online about the pirate, except other posts on this site about it.

Why do you guys keep talking about pirate radio stations? There are hundreds of stations that you could have a good discussion about, but you give a pirate station PR. You might want to take a page out of Tony's book.

Their are way more pirates supporting dance than licensed stations.. You guys are too dang lazy to even post a sample hour cause you act like your too good to reply to my posts.. I would talk alot more about pirates if you guys werent so judgemental,, BTW,,, the pirate in trenton relays my stream as well as other net streams at times,,, I dont talk or run any sweepers or adds, neither does 106.5 in Louisville,, but im the only one that is 24/7 and streams..

You can go to our website and take a look at our playlist. www.Z889.org Here I''ll even give a few more: www.wmph.org , www.ipartyradio.com . Besides the fact why should anyone put up their sample hour when you specifically said that this is how it should be done anyway?

So since there are more pirates supporting dance than licensed, thats a good thing? It's not being judgmental it's using common sense. I give props when props are due. CHRles does a great job posting all those international stations. Tony, I think now really starting to understand the business that we work in.

But if you want to get involved with illegal activity thats fine.

There are more pirate stations in Newark and Brooklyn combined than licensed stations in the same area. Pirate stations may expose people to dance music (I heard a restaurant in Hamilton play 92.9 one day), but they do a poor job doing so, and they don't pay royalties. The pirate in Trenton must be taking away listeners from Z88.9.

Mid West Clubber, what's the link to your stream? I want to compare the stream to 92.9 to see if it's relaying that.

Why do you need sample hours, when you can just listen to the respective dance stations for an hour? That's the beauty of web streaming.

I would imagine 92.9 may be doing their own thing now if their talking,,, last night I changed my playlist to CHR Rhythmic with dance and hip hop similar to Party 105,,, I cant seem to ever get over 15 or 16 listeners on my stream,,, and I have no way of knowing who is listening to the FM anymore, since I no longer give my phone number out over the air.. Ive only got about 200 songs loaded right now,, but anyway I posted my link on the sample hours thread... Thnks nick. Actually my link is posted in this thread.

While recording an aircheck, it was 100% dance, with pop remixes and a little bit of freestyle. I heard JJ Flores, Sylvia Tousin, GaGa, Chris Lake, Bellatrix, Guetta, Cascada and remixes of Pink, Britney, Beyonce, Kelly Clarkson, etc.

We had a dance pirate when I lived in Cleveland back in the late 90's. It was run from a downtown club I used to spin at. It was on thr air from 4pm to 3am. At 10pm it would go live and you would hear whatever the DJ was spinning. It was jockless except for Sundays when the guy who ran the station did a GLBT community type show for 3hrs.The station was popular in the local club scene gay or straight and had that lore that Pulse seem to gain with its audience.

The station had a strong following in Cleveland and other suburbs that were able to pick it up(about a 40-60 mile radius depending on the night). No money was made off the station as the owner just wanted to serve the community, as the the airwaves were originally intended for.The station ran for like 5 yrs before it went off the air.

The dance pirate on 92.9 in Trenton doesn't expose dance to new listeners, since the southern half of 92.9's coverage area is also served by Z88.9. We would rather have dance on a full power FM station, not on a pirate or a Channel 6.

The "pirate" broadcasters of the 90's paved the way for low power fm's some communities enjoy now. There's many more LPFM's soon to come.We could dream of having one full fm station in a big market (and I do at times) or we can have 100's of LPFM's around the nation who dedicate a significant portion of their programming to dance. i think the latter would have more of an influence on national radio charts and sales.

Thats the difference with me and my friends, and then there are the other pirates who dont care. The pirates I am friends with dont cause interference and we have clean signals. I Have had to move frequencies several times, if I can hear anything on a frequency or first adjacent, i wont transmit.

Thing is, in Trenton, there are no clear frequencies due to the proximity of NYC and Philly. 92.9 would be the clearest frequency, but it still has first adjacents and a co-channel 90 miles away that interferes with the pirate about 5-10 miles from Trenton. This pirate station should be shut down as it is taking away listeners from Z88.9. It's like a dance pirate in White Plains competing with what used to be Pulse/Party 87, or the pirate in downtown Seattle that competes with C89.5.

If pirates are here to stay because the FCC doesn't care, at least put them where they don't hurt licensed dance stations.

Does it really matter? It's still illegal.

To the extent that the FCC no longer really seems to care about service to the public, WHO MAY WANT DANCE radio, even if
commercial stations do not care to serve them, it doesn't matter that it's illegal, especially if the "pirates' are conscientious enough to
not interfere. If they're not interfering, they have a much better chance of being heard, and they are taking care to respect the
licensed users. If they are truly careful, then cheap lamp dimmers and computer CPUs are a far greater menace to commercial radio, and they would then be following the INTENT of FCC regulations, which is to not interfere with others.
The current commercial model does not provide for those whose format is not "commercially viable".
Many formats which are NOT commercially viable are desired and worthwhile, and pirates serve this audience.
I don't care for "Dance" formats, but I wouldn't dare suuggest that those who strongly feel otherwise aren't entitled to serve the public with whatever they feel the market wants. I can't understand why Rush Limbaugh is available 4 places on the dial, when dance is not available in most places.....or bluegrass...or opera...or 1920's Hot Hits.....or doo-wop.....or garage rock...or show tunes....or simply VARIETY radio.

In Trenton and most of 92.9's coverage area, Z88.9 can be heard. The pirate is not filling a format hole there. It is taking away listeners from Z88.9. If just one person with a PPM chooses to listen to 92.9 instead of 88.9, that hurts Z88.9. It can be heard along a long stretch of the Turnpike, 295, and 195.
I was able to pick up a trace of the pirate just a few miles away from Burlington County College yesterday.

This pirate has been on for years. I'm sure Brett must have complained numerous times to the FCC and nothing has been done.

Perfect example, Streetz 96, would take listeners away from Hot 97 and Power 105, and got people who are in the industry be a part of that station.
