Dance Sites

I am looking for music for my DJ business. If anyone has any good sites to get dance music that would be great. I found this site, wondering if it is music from the REAL artists though. I don't want fake crap being played at my events if you know what I mean. Speaking of looking for music, would love to find a remix of 21 Guns from Green Day.

You can download a p2p Legal program called Ares galaxy its totally free, and the non copyright material is perfectly legal to download. if you want fresh new music though, you may want to subscribe to promo only,, All the pro DJs and net stations use it, but most use many alternatives as well. I will tell you that some djs complain badly about mp3 source files, even the 320k ones.... It doesnt bother me, but alot of people will complain. You dont really want to play anything below a 128k file on a fancy loud system, some argue that even 192k is too low, but you want to get the most for your money if your spending thousands on dj equipment,,, its really best to use cds or vinyl. Im sure someone can help you better than I can, but if the others wont, I will give you my 2 cents.

The 3 best sites for dance music digital files are iTunes, Beatport and Masterbeat (for the labels that they have deals with).

As for the BS about Promo Only and MP3 files, it's just that. Promo Only when putting together the cds asks the labels for .wav files or cd's so we can rip .wavs. There are many hands that touch the music before it gets into our hands but this is what the labels are, 99% of the time, selling or sending out on Promos to djs and radio. Should a producer or someone at the label rip an mp3 and send it to us as a .wav, that's on them. Let me repeat that, WE DO NOT USE MP3'S on our cd's.

Not to hi-jack the thread but I have seen an improvement in the lossy track count on the PO discs. It's very easy to confuse a file extension with quality. .wav, .aif/.aiff is a file extension. It doesn't mean quality. Uncompressed files have the best quality, compressed files are compromised. You can compress a .wav into an .mp2/3/4/aac/wma file. You can up convert an .mp2/3/4/aac/wma into a .wav but all you're doing is making a large file mp3. It's still the compromised quality with a new coat of paint.

I deal with several formats at 181 and when ripping the music I find the biggest offender of compressed source files come from the rnb world.

PO may or may not have been aware of the quality of the files used on CDs in the past, but they are now.

We are still serviced a lot of CDRs from labels/promoters that are compressed burns. The source file may have been .wav, but the file was up converted.

My only request for PO is to do no additional audio processing. Dynamic range used to matter. PO brick walls everything. Even Guetta's "Sexy Chick" was treated. Ouch. I can understand that once you've had brick wall - you can't go back. We're stuck in a quality less world now. One advantage to over compressed audio on PO is the mp3 rips are clip city and sound bad. Keeps people subscribing to the CDs. :)

There are some other good legit sites for getting music, but because it’s a cut-throat world out there, I only share my secrets with my listeners.

I am one of your listeners. I listen to Energy 98 about 80 percent of the time. I sample other stations to see what they are about, and I listen to chr and rock,,, I like the rock 40 channel on your site... but I always come back to Energy cause I know how picky on quality tracks you are, I dont have to sit through crap to get to the good pure dance hits.
