Daniel Schorr a legend of both Radio & TV News died yesterday (July 23rd 2010) at age 93. Hired by Ed Murrow to work for CBS News in 1955. Mr. Schorr spent 23 years at CBS. He later became CNN's first employee (hired by Ted Turner.) From 1985 until his passing he was NPR's Senior News Analyst. A journalist for over 70 years, there is a fairly lengthy obituary by Robert D. Hershey in today's New York Times. I'm not sure how to post a link to it on here. But I'm thinking that's not allowed on this Board anyway. But it's worth looking up.

Dan Schorr's dispatches from Moscow and the Watergate story in particular were an inspiration. We need more guys like him, not fewer.

It certainly says a lot about radio people when hundreds more comments are made about Russ Martin than Daniel Schoor.

A correction to my post..Mr. Schorr joined CBS News in 1953....

There was a new show "The Wall - A World Divided" (2010) about the history of the Berlin Wall on PBS (KERA channel 13) last night. In first 15 minutes or so of it there were several clips of Daniel Schorr. Some of him reporting from Berlin for CBS in 1961 & some fairly recent of him talking about that time. Likely, it will be on again before too long. The listings on DirecTV last night didn't show when, but it'll be on again at some point.

My favorite Daniel Schorr story, I wanted to share:

At CBS, Mr. Schorr won three Emmy Awards for his coverage of the Watergate scandal and took pride in his often blunt reporting on the administration. In one instance he hurriedly began broadcasting after acquiring a copy of Nixon’s notorious “enemies list” only to discover in reading the names aloud that his was No. 17.

In some of the coverage of his death (On NPR, I think.) it was mentioned that Mr. Schorr took more pride in making President Nixon's enemies list than in his emmy's.
