Danny Bonaduce show moving to....

Through pure happenstance this morning I happened to catch the end of Danny Bonaduce's life coach piece where he said after hearing the rumors of the flip 2 weeks ago, already started to set a plan in place. Said he has no intentions of leaving the area code and that the 3 of them are staying together but due to contracts couldn't say other than "you'll have to turn the dial a bit". Where would he go?

Is he under contract to CBS? Clear Channel, 104.5? Does 104.5 have a morning show?

If the phrase "turn the dial a bit" is taken literally, the next stop down the dial is 95.7, Ben FM.

Ben's current morning show is music intensive: According to Yes.com, it played 11 songs from 7:02 to 7:59 this morning.

Ben and YSP probably have some audience sharing, since both stations focus on the 80s and 90s.

Ben's ratings have improved slightly recently, but not a lot. It needs something to build time spent listening.

Might Ben move a little more rock oriented and hire Bonaduce for mornings? Bonaduce's radio experience isn't exclusively rock. He has done pop radio formats before in Philly, including Eagle 106 with both a shift of his own and as part of John Lander's Nut Hut for a while.

Hm. Eagle 95.7 with Danny B. in the morning? Best hits of the 80s and 90s?

But why would GM want to keep P&S's main direct competition onair?

Still I can't think of anyother station in Philly. radio 104.5 is probably the only rock station with an open spot, but cheapchannel runs that station on the cheap. If they had some sudden interest to have a morning show, I would think they would just start airing some syndicated CC program, over starting a local one. Even Q102 doesn't have its own morning show anymore.

I agree. He would compete not only with P&S but also with DeBella.

I'm surprised we haven't seen Elliot Segal syndicated to 104.5 from DC-101.

He'll be the new morning host on WRTI, the Rachmaninoff you grew up with.

Next spot is WPST but that is in a different area code. The other way is WSTW but that is also a different area code.

With what CBS is doing in Detroit, I'm hoping he's hinting at a move to 610 AM. A simulcast is a waste of a frequency, and my hope is that CBS plans on doing something with 610. With 1210 already serving as a your run-of-the-mill political (read- conservative-leaning) syndicated talk outlet, 610 would be perfect for local-oriented news-talk/hot talk, with an anchor in the morning or afternoon such as Danny being a good fit.

WOGL will soon be the only CBS Radio property in town still playing music. I'd be surprised if they'd be willing to try music on the AM dial, though I wouldn't rule out WYSP-AM... stranger things have happened (Skin Radio).

Supposedly CBS is plotting moving Danny out of the Philly market completely... and is considering the options.

WNCX/Cleveland has apparently been identified is one possibility. The other station is unknown.

It would be perfect timing for WNCX. The impending flip of sister station WKRK-FM to "Sports Radio 92.3 The Fan" next Monday means that 'NCX will be clearly cutting ties with their floundering morning host, Maxwell, as soon as possible - perhaps by the end of this week or next. (Max only has one month to go on his one-year deal, and was never considered for "The Fan.") Plus, with all attention being directed to WKRK, WNCX's options for a replacement are severely limited.

Somehow I can't help but think of "Live 105," KITS/San Francisco, as the other station.

The thing is, CBS clearly DOESN'T want to lose him.

Only problem is he made QUITE clear he is NOT leaving Philly.

He is going to WOGL or WPHT that I know for sure!!! Yesterday he said you will still be able to hear me you will not need any apps or anything like that you will just have to turn the dial a bit. Today he said I work for CBS & Will still work for CBS. I just will not say on the air right now because I don't want someone to find out they are losing there job like that. all was said at the top of the 7am hour that can be heard as a podcast on the wysp website. So now we know he is not leaving town and he will still work for CBS & we know it will not be 1060,and it will not be 94.1/ 610 lol only ones left are WPHT or WOGL and that Morning show on WOGL sucks so I am going to say WOGL!!

So they'd replace the better-rated show on WOGL with the Bonaduce clan? And do, what...tone it down to make it enjoyable to the WOGL audience, which is hardly that of the three listeners to WYSP?

Or suddenly dump the new morning guy at WPHT (what's it been, eight months)?

Hard to imagine either scenario working out.

It would certainly be PHT long before OGL....his show wouldn't really work there and I doubt CBS would touch what (will be) their only music station, and one that actually does well.

I still see 106.9 factoring into this scenario. Call me crazy. Perhaps WYSP will get fine tuned and moved to 106.9 when CBS get's control of it. Perhaps a more "Classic Hits" format? Maybe this is all to toy with Greater Media. Force them into giving up on 97.5 as sports. So if you are CBS maybe you go after "Magic" and "Ben". WPEN FM won't be able to compete with WIP-FM....so CBS has them on the run. It makes all the sense in the world to toy with them.

How well would it work on PHT? (Not saying it's less likely than WOGL, as I don't think that's the case, but just speculating.) He's not exactly a hard-core traditional conservative talker. So whether you--hypothetically--slot him in leading into Dom, or leading into Rush....well, disjointed comes to mind. I realize Smirconish is more middle of the road now, but even with that, his style still meshes with the lineup, even if all of his positions don't.

Maybe he could be another DeBella, who did a compelling talk program that didn't fit the mold yet still could fit. But DeBella didn't have quite the same history, so I think it would be a bigger stretch to imagine that working.

106.9 could be the wild card, for sure. Repurposing WYSP there (or some variation thereof) vs. a KYW move still seems to be the wrong business decision.

As for 97.5, I doubt GM gives up in the near term. We don't know how WIP on FM will do. The shows already beating WPEN certainly aren't likely to suddenly lose, but with a new afternoon drive battle, it remains to be seen who the victor will be (and, importantly, if GM is still making enough dough to make a #2 finish still worth it).

If the speculation is WOGL, perhaps Bonaduce does mornings and Ross and Co. moves to PM drive. Fun in the morning and afternoon :p :-\ :D

Cleveland's WMJI, long the oldies/classic hits outlet, has had shock jock John Lanigan fronting their morning show (with comedian Jimmy Malone and newscaster Chip Kullik; billed as "Lanigan & Malone") for nearly 25 years. Top of the ratings for nearly the same amount of time. His success pretty much shatters the notion that an oldies/classic hits station has to have to have a "safe" morning show in order to work; in fact, only one song is played on his show, at 9:30AM daily.

So there could be a precedent for moving Danny over to WOGL. I of course say this being unfamiliar with WOGL's current morning show... but it sound like this is going to happen. I can't see Danny as a talk host on WPHT, let alone a newscaster on KYW. And of course WIP isn't integrating him on their lineup.

What about the possibility (or probability) that Danny Bonaduce is full of crap, and saying what every other blown out radio guys says after he loses his job? Blowing smoke, man...smoke.
