Danny Stiles Passes

Long Time radio host Danny Stiles has passed away at 87. More info can be found on the NY discussion Board.

Since this is the New Jersey radio board, and Danny Stiles was a Newark born and raised radio guy (a graduate of West Side High School) with about 63-years on the air, it might be interesting to list all the New Jersey radio stations he was heard on over the years.

He started at WHBI-AM in Newark, which was at 1280-AM when he started there in December of 1947.

He was well known as "The Kat Man" on WNJR in Newark, when he played R&B that was a predecessor to early Rock and Roll in the early 50s, and was still there in the middle 60s when they had an AFTRA strike and he walked the picket line.

He also worked at WCTC in New Brunswick, when it was an MOR (Middle of the Road Adult Pop) station sometime in the 60s.

In the late 70s and early 80s Stiles took his "Nostalgia Show" to WVNJ-AM-620 licensed to Newark.

Later he would take that show to other NJ radio stations including WPAT-AM licensed to Paterson, WJDM licensed to Elizabeth, and back to 1430 licensed to Newark with new call letters WNSW. His program was still carried until recently on both WPAT and WJDM.

Outside of New Jersey, he did his Saturday night show on WNYC-AM in New York for many years until his recent illness. And built up an audience at both WEVD AM and FM at different times over the years. He was also heard on WRTN in Westchester, and earlier in his career at stations in Pennsylvania, possibly in the Easton/Allentown market.

Can anybody add to this list, or know the call letters of the Pennsylvania stations?
