Danny Wright Out at Star 94

AllAccess.com is reporting that Danny Wright is out as Creative Director at Star 94 due to budget cuts.

Wright did a great job with Star's imaging. I got the impression he's a sincere and nice person. Once when I complimented Star's imaging in a Radio-Info post, Wright emailed through the site to thank me. And I've had some other email correspondence with him, and he was always cordial.

Wright has a long all-star resume, including such legendary CHR's as 92 PRO-FM in Providence and WNCI in Columbus, which of course means he might have a challenging job search in the current economic environment. He was hired at Star by Dan Bowen.

With Star 94's imaging scaled back, I guess it's kind of redundant to have both a Production Director and Imaging Director. No one has told me, but I'm guessing Production Director Doug Miller will assume Wright's imaging duties. Before joining Star, Miller was Imaging Director at KMXV in Kansas City, a station where (now Star 94 PD) JR Ammons later became PD. Miller worked with Ammons at Star before Ammons left for KC, and I don't know whether Miller had any role in KMXV's selecting JR.

A real shame. Danny Wright had Star's imaging consistently sounding hot through the different directions they've experimented with over the past year and a half, he seems to have a great sense of what sounds good. Best of luck to him.

Is this the same "Dancin" Danny Wright that worked in Seattle & Clevland in the 80s?

I don't think so. I think the Danny Wright you're talking about worked in Cleveland at WGAR and later did a syndicated country show.

I remember Wright from Q107 (DC) in the late 80s.

Q107 actually had 2 different Danny Wrights. I believe the one in afternoon drive in the mid-80's is the one who went on to WGAR and syndication.

The second Danny Wright did evenings around 1988 and was nowhere as good as the first in my opinion. I don't think either of those Danny Wrights are the one from Star 94 unless the second one got a lot better over the years.
