Darian O'Toole Question

Hi,

Regarding former SF air talent Darian O'Toole, has she ever done acting or TV work? I saw a photo of her and she looks quite familiar. I seem to have read a post that said she had been on air in LA as well as SF, but can't recall hearing her.

Her website, http://www.darianotoole.com has a bit on her radio history, which includes Philadelphia, Baltimore, NYC and SF. No mention of TV work, but then the site hasn't been updated since before her recent meltdown.

The site also claims her morning show at Big 98.1 was "#1", and that she consistently beat Stern & Alex Bennett. Anybody know if that's even close to being true?

You can get more info about Darian on her website:

http://www.darianotoole.com

Her blog is at:

http://darianotoole.blogspot.com

The latest post on her blog, dated March 15, is by "Mike B, a friend," and notes:

<blockquote>Sorry that Darian can't update this herself right now...

I can imagine that many of you are disappointed that you haven't heard from her. Believe me when I say that she misses all of you, and can't wait to go back to emailing, posting, blogging and IM'ing.

Please be patient and we'll do our best to explain all this in the near future. At that point, I'm sure you'll all understand the reason for the lack of information.

To her detractors, please find something else to do. Surely you have dogs to kick and babies to shake.

Hello DJ, I've been to the site.

Here is another one of her appologist cast members with a post on her blog. Tell you what, I looked at her website, it mentions she has done some bit part on Nash Bridges, BUT, what I found very amusing was in the section of press realeses, In One 1997-98 she Calls "The Dog House, Guys who Piss on there control board, and in the one for Free FM (2005) about how,the Dog House, are so talented. Darian excells in self promotion, she just never seems to deliver. And just a note, don't put stuff on your site that makes you look foolish, like OLD the press releases. Just like your "friends" Opie and Anthony, Who played your Sad Last Show on their XM show. Wow, thanks Friends.

NOW, of course, anyone who calls her on the BS and the Lack of sucess is
someone "who kicks dogs and shakes babies"...She once said she was the Female Howard Stern, what she seems to be is the Female Michael Savage. Except Savage is a financial sucess.

Most of the very talented folks I work with don't Threaten People, or put them down, They just Ignore them. For the most part they don't need to tell anyone they ARE talented, because it is obvious they ARE.

Darian wants to be a STAR, she wants STAR respect while she disrespects others. She is under the impression tahts what stars do. When it all implodes on her, she's the victim. Classic.

Darian, Go seek some professional help, the kind you pay $120 an hour for but only get 50 minutes. This sad young woman in trouble.

I've heard her last show, why didn't someone pull her off? Here is what I belive. Perhaps 106.9 thought they could get some Press out of it. Ahh perhaps DO'T has met the Corporate Version of herself.

Aren't you a little late on this?

Also, there is no way they wanted that press. I know the people over
there and they just aren't that cynical. I listened to the tape and - in the beginning - she was just getting by...but it was all over when Attell came in.

Yes. When it was BIG 98.1, then 98.1 K-BIG, her morning show was #1 in the Bay Area. Then Clear Channel blew it up and changed to 98-1, KISS FM. I believe she left the area and came back to 107-7 KSAN. She never really got her momentum back. KSAN focused more on Classic Rock That Rocks and repositioned themselves as The Bone. D O'T went to NY, promised the world.

And the rest, as they say, is history....

Actually there were several dayparts that showed #1 in particular demos. The Saturday night disco show, for one, had huge numbers.

I Believe she had average numbers at K-BIG on the morning show, until her last book, she had one huge move up to the top when it became KISS. She stated she didn't feel like an MC Hammer or some similiar statement she made to fit in at KISS.

Is the audio available of that last show?

I'm almost sure that Darian was never on Kiss-FM. At the time, I worked in an office with a lady who was a K-Big and D'OT junkie, so she was on all the time. I believe Clear Channel jettisoned Darian when they dumped the K-Big 70s format because they felt she wouldn't fit in with a station that was going for a more "urban" (i.e.: ethnic) audience. My co-worker was devasted, and changed the "at-work" radio to Alice. Many people thought CC was nuts at the time because Darian's ratings were high. But there are lots of examples of this in Bay Area radio history. For example - in the 70s, KNEW (owned by MetroMedia at the time) dropped the top-rated popular Don Chamberlin "California Girls" sex-talk show when they switched the music to Country.

She never worked at KISS. The entire airstaff was replaced when they blew up Big 98.1 for Jimmy DeCastro's wonderful "Project David" format, at the time called "Jammin' Oldies."

The next time you decide to swear on this board, I'm letting the Moderators know! How dare you remind me of that person. Thanks alot. I need to shower now.

Yeah, I thought the Luckoff thing was over the line, too. But, it's just one promo...I think Kohl & company went a little overboard trying to make a splash in the market. Savage sure didn't turn out to be the cash cow everyone thought he'd be.

And let's not forget having the KNEW promo truck drive around the Redwood City courthouse weeks before the Scott Peterson trial with Peterson's picture and the phrase "Man or Monster?"

As far as Kohl's character goes...I never saw that side of him when I worked with him. But, then again, you're not the only one I've heard this from.

Good ole radio times!
