Dark Secret on V-103

Does anyone know anything about the background of V-103's new midday guy, who's calling himself Dark Secret? I think he starts next week.

He was the afternoon drive-time guy at WKYS-FM in Washington D.C., an R&B/hip-hop station dubbed "The People's Station," just like V-103. He also went by Osei.

WKYS is one of the original Radio One stations. This is the second big score from Radio One for CBS/V103 in the last year. I wonder if Radio One will retaliate?

He "could not reach contract agreement" with KYS. Was a R&R story about 2 weeks ago. Doubt you will see any retaliation. If Radio One really felt it needed to keep him they would have. From the history I am aware of, Radio One has folks waiting in the wings in their smaller markets primed and ready to go for such openings.

Re: Dark Secret on V-103 - bio

exerpt from prweb.com:

Prior to WKYS, Osei handled double-duties as the afternoon drive host at former urban station, WXYV-FM in Baltimore while continuing to do part-time shifts at WPGC-FM, in Washington, DC . Before Baltimore, he had a very popular 2-year stint as the 10pm-2am host of “Love Talk & Slow Jams” on WPHI-FM in Philadelphia.

An aspiring actor, Osei is a former student of the renowned Freedom Theater repertoire company in Philadelphia. Also, more than 70 million people are familiar with Osei’s highly recognizable voice as the primary male voice for Black Entertainment Television (BET) for more than 2 years. He can also be heard by millions of listeners throughout Africa, Europe and Asia on the World Space digital satellite radio network. Osei’s first brush with the airwaves happened at WHOV-FM, Hampton’s nationally respected college station.

Born in Kitchner, Ontario, Canada, Osei is has lived in different parts of the world including New York, Cleveland, Detroit, Virginia and Ghana West Africa, the birthplace of his parents.

A former collegiate football player, Osei graduated from Hampton University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Pre-Med.

You are correct....it is true for all of the radio companies. There is such a glut of talent, and so few jobs to go around, it is impossible to really stand firm in negotiations.
And that's even if your a star.....they let Ryan walk. I don't think they have recovered, even to this day.....but Alfred saved a dollar or two.
I thought the afternoon guy was doing pretty well against PGC. That's a tough station to beat!

If that's the case what happened when Ryan left Hot?

Well the short of it is that a Corporate decision was made that the ratings lost (projected/estimated short term) would not negatively impact revenue in the long term, coupled with the projection that savings on payroll with what was a probable part timer promotion would adequately satisfy budget requirements for the property. In lay terms, they felt they could outsell the ratings, and they could cut bait on the star salary. Remember, it ain't about the ratings, or the listener....its about the REVENUE.
