Dark Shadows Movie VS TV series.

Remember when Johnny Depp's show 21 Jump Street was remade into a parody movie earlier in 2012.
Now Johnny Depp now appears on a remake or parody of Dark Shadows as a movie.

Jonathan Frid (the original Barnabas on the TV show Dark Shadows) is probably rolling in his grave just about now over the supposed comedic version of Dark Shadows. The movie versions from 1970 and 1971 would probably be better than this awful piece of work.

Prime example of leaving a TV show alone and NOT making it into a movie. Just ask those who tried to make Leave It To Beaver and The Honeymooners into movies and you know how they turned out.

Probably not. He made a cameo in the movie.

I liked the 1991 revival of the show, with "Chariots of Fire" star Ben Cross as Barnabas... it moved at a quicker pace (going over what would have been a week's worth of storyline for the original soap in one episode), and had some good performances (except for Jim Fyfe as Willie, no improvement over John Karlen). But I agree that Frid was Barnabas.
As for the movie: usually, Depp + Burton = awesome, but I feel that they may be joking it up too much.

@Rnigma: Around the same time, there was also another syndicated "revival" series - "Dracula" - probably produced just to confuse everybody, "Dark Shadows" fans in particular.

I'm disappointed they couldn't play it straight. A really good thriller could have been made out of Dark Shadows. The original series was occasionally funny in its cheesiness, but that wasn't by design. And for a soap opera, it had some very talented actors.

I wish Tim Burton had realized that not every old TV show needs to be spoofed.
