the golden boy

I saw where the former LAPD chief passed away. If I'm not mistaken, didn't he have a talk show on KFI after he stepped down and how long did it last?

Gates did have a KFI talk show, though I'm not sure how long it lasted. If I remember correctly, he knocked Tom Leykis off the air. When Leykis first syndicated his show shortly thereafter, he'd make occasional snarky references to "KKK-FI."

Reportedly, Gates made thinly veiled threats to PD David Hall when Hall later canceled Gates' show.
 
Gates didn't knock Leykis off of KFI. They made a change and needed someone to bridge the gap between Leykis and John & Ken. Gates was originally used to deflect bad feeleings toward John & Ken by Leykis fans.
