> Any thoughts?

- Christmas Music still works (WJXA)
- WRQQ continues to be a mediocre Oldies station that got a big french kiss last book, more reality this book. They just plain sound "blah"
- country players continue to jostle for position
- Jack remains #1 25-54
- WNRQ has a nice bounce-back
- WGFX still sits at around #10- no better, no worse. What's the point?

Most of the above is fair, but Oldies 97 is a big improvement over Oldies 96.3. The music is newer with less of the lame "shoobie doo" stuff from the 60s.

Jack hasn't been around a year yet, so its long-term viability hasn't yet been determined. It's not a bad concept, but again, we still don't know its long-term prospects.

"Shoobie doo"? What is that? Are you saying the music isn't as old? I heard Buddy Holly on 97.1 yesterday while driving to work and I heard Del Shannon today. Both stations covered the same time period. But I will agree that the entire package sounds better on 97.1 than it did on 96.3

I'm surprised at Jack's slight fall on the 12+ numbers. I'm still hearing 96.3 on radios all over the place (at work, in stores, other people's radios, etc...)

97.1 still plays some of that older stuff but not quite as much as Oldies 96.3 did. They're playing more 70s stuff as well.

Cumulus is doing a far superior job with the format than South Central did.

97.1

To me, they've still sounded like the typical "good times, great oldies" blah blah blah radio station. Bobby Knight and all his Oldies BS, it's just the same old/same old on a new frequency.

Boring, repetitive, all the oldies catch-phrases-- the kinds of things that are killing this format everywhere.

Hmmmm. I guess that's why Oldies pulled the lowest 25-54 share in its history in Nashville.

I assume you were in Nashville recently?

Well, it is better than nothing. I'm sure oldies fans are happy that there is still an oldies station around.

97.1

I've caught them driving thru several times and on a recent stay of several days.
They are only "OK". A lot of the same, standard and worn Oldies fare, musically and especially in their imaging and jocks. YAWN.

I'd hope "better than nothing" hasn't become our standard for great radio these days.

so then one would ask..if its the same ol' thing..why would it drop so far..if it was working on the 96.3 frequency, why wouldn't it work at least moderatly as well, as the 97.1 frequency...altough the 97.1 frequency isn't as strong..is it enough to make it fall that far?

97.1

because Oldies at 96.3 was decent but losing audience- 97.1 got a big wet kiss their first book in the format but have not maintained that because they are just not that good. The 97.1 signal is fine- it covers the metro as well as 96.3's Murfreesboro-licenced signal did. But their programming is just a basic continuation of 96.3's with no big improvement. To stop the slide, Oldies stations have to be big and bold with their products vs. the old and tire "good times/great oldies" thing that's been beat into their listeners brains for 20 years.
