'DAS-ers Fear Format Flip After "Unity Day" Is Axed

The annual WDAS event was canceled due to the current economic climate... but some staffers at the station think otherwise.

"To get rid of Unity Day was stupid. How are you going to replace that revenue," one veteran 'DAS employee told us yesterday. "What's next, Powerhouse, the Q concerts?"

Recently, Clear Channel assigned their Pittsburgh market manager to handle the same task for their Philly cluster.

Isn't WDAS consistently in the top five positions when ratings come to call? Why in the world would CC flup such a fabulously successful station? I think the fear of a format flip is more the product of reactionary reasoning than sound reasoning.

Doesn't Joe Tamburro usually have his hands in most aspects of "Unity Day"? If so, maybe he has a health issue that prevents him from handling things as he sees fit.

Or....

Maybe Clear Channel feels that since we have a black president, we don't need a festival to promote unity anymore.

Or...

Maybe Clear Channel is about to ax Patty Jackson and try an all-syndicated station like was tried in L.A. last year.

any other theories?
