I'm not trying to start [EDIT], or a flamewar, I just curious to reactions on this:

I saw this quote from Rolling Stone about Dashboard Confessional:

Perhaps the only man in rock music that can draw endless praise from masses of rabid teenage girls while simultaneously getting the musical OK from their boyfriends- a musical accomplishment on par with Beatles mania.

That quote is from Rolling Stone magazine.

I think the comparison to the Beatles is a little much, but in an Alternative sense, I totally agree that Dashboard Confessional is one of the biggest artists of the past 5 years for Alternative.

Eh, it seems he didn't quite blow-up as big as he was intended to. In 2002 I remember everyone talking about him and "The Places You Have Come To Fear." That was an interesting time for the alt-rock world. You had the "garage" and "real rock" bands such as The Strokes, White Stripes, Hives, Vines running alongside the still prospering nu metal acts like Disturbed, System Of A Down, P.O.D. as well as the up-and-coming emo-punk hybrids Dashboard Confessional, New Found Glory, Jimmy Eat World and then the so-cal "nice" nu-metal such as Incubus and Hoobastank. Anyways, I think that Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance have surpassed DC's popularity, regardless of who you think is better.
 
I'm surprised Dashboard wasn't/isn't better embraced by Alternative radio. There are pockets of support, but not to the level the band deserves.
 
Dashboard has their moments, but I think Chris Carrabba's voice turns off some people. He has one of those voices that I personally can only take in small doses, and the whining on some tracks can be rather painful at times, like on the chorus to "Don't Wait". I also think that the change in sound has led to a slight erosion in the band's fanbase, as many people seemed to like DC when they were more stripped-down like on the first two albums as opposed to the highly produced full band sound of their last two albums.
