Date set for Houston Radio Reunion!

Well, it looks like Sunday, July 27th will be the day we have our first Houston radio reunion! Fred Stockton at www.tinhall.com in Cypress has graciously donated his place from 2p-6p that day.

Admission will be free, and all former and present Houston area radio folks, their families, friends associates are invited. There will be a fully stocked cash bar, and we are even working on some eats and treats too. If you are planning on attending, please e-mail me. [email protected] I just need to keep a head count and master list of who you are, where you worked and who you are bringing.

More info soon!

Josh Holstead
aka Rowdy Yates

I am going to talk to a photographer and videographer next week. One way or another, there WILL be pictures.

Sorry you can't make it.

Big Red

PS-If you are planning on attending, e-mail me as soon as you can. [email protected]

You may have to drink for three. I'm pretty much "off the sauce" since I had my Lap-Band surgery. Can't eat, can't drink, don't smoke anymore. (yeah, I am THAT much fun to be around) We had to throw this party just to occupy my spare time. BTW-I will post this on the www.lifeafterradio.blogspot.com site, but here is who is 'on the list' so far.

The list is growing and that is great, but it will only grow larger if you (the reader) send a note to all your old co-workers. You've no doubt kept up with several more people than you may think if you really put your mind to it...

I sat down and made a list of people I can still locate from my days at K-Lite, KLDE, Metro and now KHTC. Its fun to see how many of the same names appear on lists from several workplaces.

I'll send the info to Ken Hoffman as well, who knows he might print it in his column in the Chronicle.

Tom Fontaine needs to be there.

Has anybody thought about:
Gary Ryder (Gary Ryder Road Show on KILT-610),
Steve "The Horse Doctor" Weldon (KILT),
Jim Lago (KILT, KNUZ)
Gene Austin (KILT,KLOL)
Linda Flores O'Brian (KILT)
Rick "Captain Jack" Candea (KILT),
Arch Yancey (KILT, KNUZ, KIKK),
Paul Berlin (KNUZ, KQUE, KSEV, KBME)
Scott Arthur (KRIV-TV, KQUE, KBME)

of course, the list could go on and on.

Agreed on all-

I am e-mailing everyone I have contact with that I think would have interest. You should too. The turnout depends on getting the word out. Just make sure they all RSVP me ASAP. [email protected]

Someone should ask RB McIntire to contact Jim Carola. I can't imagine a reunion like this without him. Even in a big room full of radio voices, he's still the best.

Jim will be there. He told me he was going to bring a little something for all of us to listen to. I know we'll enjoy it!

Karla Fay Tucker Incident? Refresh my old failing memory Kev. I know who she was, and what she did, but what's JimC's connection with her?

Slip of the tounge. I was on the board. After news broke of the first female execution in Texas in <something like> 100 years, Jim broke into regular programming with the headline "Karla Tae Fu*ker has been executed in Huntsville"

While we are on the subject of audio, we are still looking for someone to put together an audio presentation. Any takers? E-Mail me. [email protected].

You know, for all of the great work Jim did over the years, it is sad to think THAT is what people will remember him for.

Sorry I missed that one. Not to worry though. I think Jim's reputation is secure. I've worked in this market since the mid 60s and I've never heard another radio newsie as good as he. He's the best.

His blooper wasn't nearly as bad as the one a bunch of guys around the country made in their first attempt to pronounce Joey Buttofuocco's name, back when he was a daily item.

I believe RB McEntire's retelling of the story is probably funnier than the real incident... Both Jim and RB are the best story tellers I know of.
