Dave and Chuck out at 89x

"Unfortunately we can’t go into detail, but as of today the Dave and Chuck “the Freak” show is no longer a part of the 89X line up.
We greatly enjoyed our time at 89X for over a decade, made some great friends, and are so thankful we got to be a part of your lives every morning. We have the best listeners in the world, and you guys entertained us as much as we entertained you".

I'm wondering why they're gone, did they leave or budget cuts strike them? I can't believe how a morning show that does as well as Dave and Chuck (Last time I heard, they were #1 18-49) is out.

Dave and Chuck to 106-7 The D. I'm calling it right now.

Think about it....The D still doesn't have a morning show. They leave to go to another competing station within the market. 89X and The D are competing stations....

Anyone sees the irony here?

umfan, I would rather they go to AMP than 106.7. It's not a locally programmed station. Their ratings are dropping big time, and the only reason that that format is secure is because they've already tried Country(since flipping W4 Country) and failed, they tried Rhythmic CHR and blew it up to protect 95.5, they would never try an out of the box format, and it has been made painfully clear they'll never put WDFN on FM and there is no purpose to do so now. At least if they go to AMP, this would allow them to develop a stronger lineup, which could be hurting them vs 95.5. Just a thought.

According to 106.7 The D's website and Wikipedia page(If it's on Wikipedia, there's some element of truth there!), Alan Cox hosts a morning show on 106.7. He also does work for WMMS in Cleveland and will host the show from Cleveland, but will occasionally host it here. So for those who think that Dave and Chuck are going to 106.7, Could this be filler until April or early May when the non-compete expires or is this about to be a nerve wracking few months?

I think the Alan Cox Show is only filler since he only signed a one-year deal with CC. I believe he wanted to move to a larger market than Cleveland, so giving him some voicetracking duties in Detroit (which I believe he's from this area) was enough to satisfy him with that until the year's up and either CC gives him a larger market deal or he skips out to some other company.

On your Amp vs. D remarks, I think those are the two stations Dave and Chuck are most likely to end up on. The D could use the ratings boost that D&C will provide and their show tends to fit what the classic rock crowd loves (Beers and Broads, Baby! I'm not sure if the classic rock crowd is quite into the weird sex stories, but we'll find out soon enough), so this would bring in the younger demos while keeping their current ones.
Amp would be another good fit for them since the show targets a younger crowd and Amp could really use a strong morning show to give listeners a reason to pick them over Channel or WJLB.

I'm going back and forth on this one considering that Dave and Chuck seemed to laugh at pop music on 89x, but here they could be on a hit music station, but I'm not sure they would fit on 106.7. I almost want them to go to AMP because it would be a shame to see a morning show like that swept up in Clear Channel cuts(even though I do not listen to AMP). I'm sure we'll find out soon enough.

Forgive my ignorance here ... does 89X broadcast from Detroit and have its business offices on the Canadian side? It never stood out to me as overtly Canadian when I listened in college, other than its low frequency and superior power.

The entire operation is at 1640 Ouellette Avenue in Windsor with additional offices in the US. CIMX1-FM (89X) is part of the same cluster that also includes CKLW-FM (93.9), CKLW (800) and CKWW (580).
