Dave and Chuck The Freak

....have finally had their new station revealed to us today: http://theoaklandpress.com/articles/2013/05/08/news/doc518a636394792875908542.txt

Odd enough, they're going to WRIF and displacing the insanely popular Drew and Mike. Well, I guess this opens up a new can of (discussion) worms:

1. Will the addition of DCTF prove to be a great idea or end up being a total disaster? Personally, I'm thinking GM decided this because they'd save more money than they'd lose by switching, after all they are picking up another highly rated morning show, just not the top one.
2. Let's consider the question asked a few months ago, just substituting personalities: Where will Drew & Mike go? Do they retire from radio? Do they go to another station in market (I'd die of laughter if they went to Bell Media)? Do they go to another market? (A runaway #1 morning show in market #12 should have no trouble landing on their feet)

Stay tuned.

This is a huge shift. Not sure if Drew and Mike can find another home in Detroit.

It changes the morning demo for WRIF, but unless they change the music mix, they arenn't going to retain those listeners into other dayparts.

I only see Greater Media shifting them to WCSX if they can do so at a much cheaper rate. CC won't pay for expensive morning talent.

CBS might make a move, perhaps to reformat AMP, but again, how long until D&M hang it up anyway.

umfan for three, timeout, my wild hair. WRIF has to drop the 80's and even 70's that they've been playing for Dave and Chuck's impact to be felt. If Greater Media wanted to move them to WCSX, (which could suit them well), the conundrum could be, Talk in the morning, and move Ken Calvert back to afternoons, or just let these two walk?

Tomorrow is the final show on WRIF for Drew and Mike.

Starting Monday we'll hear to what degree the music will change on WRIF to accomodate the new morning show.

I expect their 18-34 numbers to jump at least back into top 5. Their 25-54 numbers may slip a little, but I expect the bulk of their ratings drop to come from the 35-64 demo. Overall, I don't think WRIF will face the same repercussion X did.
