Dave and Jimmy in Youngstown too

From Ohio Media Watch...

DAVE AND JIMMY KISS YOUNGSTOWN: As rumored, OMW hears it's going to happen Monday at Clear Channel Youngstown top 40 WAKZ/95.9 "Kiss FM".

Regionally syndicated morning team "Dave and Jimmy", based at Clear Channel top 40 powerhouse WNCI/97.9 Columbus, will take the open morning drive slot at the Youngstown station on Monday.

and according to AllAccess, they are supposed to pick up another major Ohio affiliate next week. I would have to assume that since they used the word "major" that maybe they are being picked up by cincy or cleveland? my guess of the two would be cleveland, assuming that dave and jimmy will continue to stay with CC stations. the CHR CC station in cincy just got a new morning show and cleveland's is still running valentine.

I'm not usually up early enough to hear most of the Morning Zoo so for those of you who are ... how noticeable is it that they're syndicated? Have they nixed references to Columbus and become somewhat sterile b/c they're on multiple markets?

It's weird... for about 10 minutes you'll hear them referring to "Dave and Jimmy" ... then there's a 5-second station-break and they come back and then you hear "WNCI Morning Zoo" references. There's still plenty of Columbus content during those local segments... all in all, it's a very professional (don't laugh - I'm referring to their imaging and production) presentation and it runs very seamlessly, in my opinion. And I'm not a radio professional, just a college student!

I am not sure how Clear Channel is doing it but I would suspect that the local WNCI breaks are covered on the Dave and Jimmy stations with extra songs etc.. or spot breaks or breaks for their news, weather, traffic or whatever the network affil wants to add to their stations local presence etc.

Both of you pretty much hit the nail already, but yes. Listening on NCI, they will come out of the spots with Columbus stuff for a bit, then a sweeper plays and joins up with the network. Network is playing songs during that time. Then the number becomes 1-800-822-9624 as opposed to 822-WNCI, it's "Dave and Jimmy, Good morning..." etc.

If you look at WAKZ or WZKF on Mediabase, you see they play music in the mornings, where NCI doesn't really.
Also interesting as the show is only carried until 9am in Youngstown. I believe Kentucky carries the full 4 hours.

Could Dayton be next for Dave and Jimmy? The CHR there(WDKF-Channel 9-4-5)just lost Clayton, the host of their "Morning Mess"(and it is)to 94.9 The Sound, where he took middays, and there are now just two people left hosting the Mess there(Quinn and Gina). Channel is a possibility...for a while they aired the old "Drew and Fish" show from 7-11PM in the late 90s when they were known as "94.5 The Beat", which was syndicated from 'NCI. Channel is also a CC station, so anything is possible I guess...

That's surprising to me. CC is pretty good about securing non-compete clauses.

These guys are so old and tired...no idea why they are being syndicated...they stink...

Something seems to be working but I tend to agree with you. Then again I am not part of the target demo.
