Dave Armbruster and crew in Louisville

Imagine my surprise last Monday when listening to WHAS in Louisville to hear Dave Armbruster and Chuck Ingram doing local traffic. These guys must be chained to their desks looking at metrocams throughout the region. From what I've read CC cut smaller traffic centers across the country.

I can't fault them for their work, but you can tell they are not familiar with some of the streets down here. Their voices were familiar to me since I was a longtime listener to Burbank (since his start in 1976 at WHAS after coming from crosstown rival WAKY). Long live Burbank!
 
A Lot of Large Radio Groups are going to Regional hubs for News and Traffic Departments. sadly it saves money. what you almost gotta do in radio these days. blame ISDN For that. it started when stations within groups started voice tracking their DJ's across co owned stations in other markets. if was a matter of time that it was gonna start happening in the News, Traffic and Sports departments as well

Metro Traffic has been doing it for a couple years now

Regarding traffic: It's a terrible idea, and a perfect way to lose both listeners and advertisers. If you are unfamiliar with the commute, the listeners will catch on quickly, and your station will have no credibility.
 
Well Sadly besides Clear Channel's Total Traffic going to Regional hubs. Metro Traffic went to Regional hubs several Years ago. the Cincinnati Stations that subscribe to Metro get their Traffic out of Detroit. Louisville i believe gets their metro traffic info from Atlanta. Indianapolis comes out of Chicago
