Dave Barnett

It's the playoffs ... against the Yankees.

And what comes out of the speakers?

Gee, Dave Barnett may be a great guy and a UNT grad. But for crying out loud, Vin Scully, about 30 years his senior, can muster more energy than Barnett.
Someone give him a No-Doze.

Where's Jon Miller when we really need him?

It's just so ... ordinary when Barnett does the play by play.

Once Nadel takes over, you feel as if you are back at the ballpark instead of listening to Barnett announcing a bridge tournament at the senior center.

Because I work at night up here in Ohio, I listen to the games online (TV's behind me in the office so I turn around for the big things). I listen to the Nadel innings, then switch to the Yankees broadcast when Barnett is on. Say what you will about Sterling and Waldman, and of course they'd rather the Yankees win, but they give the Rangers (and any NYY opponent) their due when big things happen.
I am wondering if Barnett will head over to TV with Lewin now gone.

On ESPN 103.3 FM
I've been listening to them when in the car.

Naw, I mean bring Miller back with the Rangers.

Yeah, I know. Elephants will fly first.

Probably, but if Barnett was more laid back, his head would be on a pillow.

My dog, Scooter, is named after Phil Rizzuto. But at about 80 pounds, maybe I should have called her Mantle.

After I named her, it occurred to me that DiMaggio would be cool.

Fascinating story, huh?

I thought Barnett did a very good job as the Mavericks voice in the 80s, but he is just not very good at doing baseball. There is too much dead air with him, he doesn't get the concept of humorous or interesting banter. Sort of like the sports version of Scott Friedman.

The Rangers have been unable to find a sidekick for Eric Nadel that can even come close to generating the chemistry that Nadel had with the late, great Mark Holtz.

While Dave began in radio, he's been a tv guy for a long time. With all the talk about Mike Capps on the Lewin Replacement thread, Mike is pretty busy with his RR Express duties and his owning partnership at KAND in Corsicana. I'd say Dave is probably the top choice for Ranger tv. While there's no question Dave is a first class pro, there's also not much disagreement that his not exactly 'Mr. Excitement' either.

Exactly.

You have to have something interesting to say between pitches -- anecdotes, stats, humor ... something.

That's why the great announcers of baseball are so well remembered.

Often Barnett has ... nothing.

Best wishes,

"First three years"? "Adjust and come forward"?

Dave Barnett is an award-winning 20-year veteran announcer of several sports.

With all due respect, none of the above makes Barnett even an average baseball announcer.

Best wishes,

X-Man,

Yes, there is, certainly.

You read an early post.

Read it now.

Before you posted your remarks, I had already realized "facts" was the wrong word.

In addition, I made several other changes including the link at the bottom. Several versions probably appeared at any given time. I just keep seeing errors, mistakes, typos, etc. and kept changing them.

You are right, it simply my opinion. However, it was shared by many commenting in The Dallas Morning News when it was mentioned that Barnett might move to TV.

Respectfully,
