Dave Benson will soon take over the P.D. reins at The Mountain

He recently left AAA KFOG/San Francisco.

Breaks, yer right. It's official: In today's All Access:
"...ENTERCOM AAA KMTT ...SEATTLE names DAVE BENSON as its new PD, replacing KEVIN WELCH... BENSON recently exited CUMULUS AAA KFOG/SAN FRANCISCO after nine very successful years. He will start in SEATTLE on JULY 27th.

Congratulations and good luck to Dave. He was an exceptional PD at KFOG. Now, he actually gets to program a station without the "guidance" (sarcasm added) of Cumulus.

Susquehanna used to be a good operator...guess they sold the SFO properties to Cumulus. I have not been impressed with what they have done with their stations; and less so in my vendor presentations at their Atlanta corporate. Hear the same story from many ... a vendor is invited to make a detailed presentation, and it usually ends with "thanks...but we're thinking based on what you told us we can do this ourselves". My slogan became "these guys put the D.k in Dickey". Good for Dave that he has an escape ... hope E/Com corporate will actually allow him some freedom, as I understand that has been an issue in the past with "Junior". Hmm...all these corporate deals where the "lucky sperm" people seem to keep stepping into the leadership role and it rarely ends well. Anyone see a pattern???

KFOG is one of my favorite stations as I travel. This is excellent news for KMTT who are suffering in the PPM world. KFOG is not suffering and seems to have found the balance between ratings and great artistic music. Welcome to town!

Not sure about the pattern, but "Lucky Sperm" would be a great name for a rock band.

And after all these episodes of CSI I often wished I had any talent to form a rock band...as I want to claim the name "Vaginal Contusions"!

KFOG is one of the most classic rock heavy AAAs in the format. Do we really want more KJR/Jack/KZOK music on KMTT? I'll wait and see what Benson does, but I doubt making KMTT more like KFOG is the solution or something most of their listeners are wanting.

Why assume that this guy will just do the same thing here? Is that what you'd do if you changed jobs? Just do exactly what you did at your last job? Wouldn't you be smarter than that? He's already programmed two pretty different AAA stations, KBCO and KFOG, and they are two of the most popular & successful stations in the format. He's being hired to increase the size of KMTT's audience. Not to keep it the same so that it continues to sink to the bottom of the ratings.

Agreed, which is why I said wait and see. Although I'd say KBCO's Clear Channel era had more in common with KFOG than KFOG has with the heritage of KMTT.
