Dave Brubeck, whose 1961 hit Take Five was a staple of smooth-jazz radio, died of heart failure December 5, a day before his 92nd birthday. For a while he wanted to be a veterinarian; millions of jazz lovers are glad that he abandoned dogs 'n' cats in favor of the piano. Here is the Associated Press story:
