Dave Dallow out at KBEZ

Tod Tucker will now program both stations. Plus they're still looking for a fulltime afternoon driver.

I was surprised to see that this afternoon. I've heard only good things about Dave Dallow, and it seems like he just got there.

However, in the same breath, I have to congratulate my old friend Tod Tucker.

I guess this is just the nature of the beast, but I owe a lot to Dave Dallow for giving me a shot. I get to work with and learn from some of the best in radio. Oh yeah, Coop and O'Shea too! :p

As a perennial posterboy for "A Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Waste"....I deeply appreciate Chuck's comments.

;D ;D ;D

Chuck-
As the poster boy for "your brain on drugs", I deeply appreciate the compliment. I've learned a thing or two from Coop too. He taught me how to be relaxed on stage and why you should not date anyone under 16. ;D

Dave's a nice guy. He hired me and I will be forever in his debt. I love my little four hour fun shift. Give it a listen from 3p-7p on Saturdays and probably on holidays. 8)

Chuck, You have enough natural talent that you are on your way to becoming one of the great ones yourself, and it's not that far away.

Boosh!

It sadens me that another good programmer is out of work. Todd is a very good PD but trying to stretch him over two different formats will most likely make both suffer. Ya know, sometimes being CHEAP just isn't that great of an idea TONY.

Actually, my friend, Dave is doing afternoon drive on EZ now. I don't know if you've recently worked for Tony or if you ever have, but it has been my experience that people tend to work for Mr. Renda for very long periods of time. It is a terrific company to work for. Here in Tulsa, it is a class operation all the way around. We've got the one of the best engineers I've ever worked with and as far as Tucker rising to the challenge, believe me bud he's got the chutzpa to pull it off. I do hate to see a terrific PD go the way of the evening paper but beleive me when I tell you that Todd Tucker can handle the chore. I'm just glad to see Dave still employed and not on the beach during the holidays! I know how that feels when I got blown out Christmas Eve week of '97. That's another saga in the unfolding drama that is my life. The stuff that epic movies are made of really....but I digress. Don't be so quick to point your lewd little finger. Renda Broadcasting isn't in the can like a lot of other big companies I know of right now. Hey, it's tough all over!

Love,
Bob

I'm glad to hear he's still employed, etc. Who knows on that one.. He might have wanted to not have to deal with being the PD and just go back to air talent. I'm in OKC so I didn't know he was still on in afternoon drive, etc.

Like all companies there are good and bad points to his operation. I still stand behind my statemanent that he is CHEAP in a lot of respects. Maybe in this particular situation it may have less to do with the cheap factor.

We've got the one of the best engineers I've ever worked with

Richard Hardy IS one of the very best, without a doubt.

and as far as Tucker rising to the challenge, believe me bud he's got the chutzpa to pull it off.

It's not a question of Todd's abilities. I question if any PD should have to think about more than one station at a time. It's done all the time but that doesn't mean it's the best way to go. It is, however the CHEAPEST way to go.

I do hate to see a terrific PD go the way of the evening paper but beleive me when I tell you that Todd Tucker can handle the chore.

I'm sure he will to the best of his abilities with 50 percent of his time as he now has two totally different properties to say grace over now.

I'm just glad to see Dave still employed and not on the beach during the holidays! I know how that feels when I got blown out Christmas Eve week of '97.

Firing people near Christmas (which is a real favorite of many of the larger groups) is one of the darkest parts of our industry strictly based on the corporate convience without regard to the employees at all. That kind of attitude is exactly what is wrong with the industry to begin with.

That's another saga in the unfolding drama that is my life. The stuff that epic movies are made of really....but I digress. Don't be so quick to point your lewd little finger. Renda Broadcasting isn't in the can like a lot of other big companies I know of right now. Hey, it's tough all over!

Times are tougher in radio than they should be because of spending too much money aquiring properties and foolish business practices. Renda is no different other than, in general, he still believes in keeping full-time air talent around to make the product better, for the most part. That part of his operation is a definate posititve. I can list other things in the negitive catagory if you'd like me too (or not). Considering now that appearently the former PD is still employed there I have less of a reason to bother. :)

Todd is not a good PD.

Tod has always been cool to me when I have talked to him, better yet his station sounds consentent and the jocks sound like they are on the same page also. Now if Tod hired Jet Black who is a Tulsa Icon I think the party would just get bigger!

Thank you for the kind words Good Sir! Must of rubbed off some quick witted "Ogre" that was hanging around the studio. ;)

Ba-Ba-Boosh!!!

As far as Tod goes, I'm sure he will rise to the challenge. There are a number of people down the hall that speak highly of him.

Let me once again take a stand about my previous statements for clarification. Todd is an EXCELLENT programmer IMHO, I just don't think anyone should have to program two stations at the same time. One station will always be the lesser of the two for he that has to divide his time between them. Quality will suffer somewhere regardless of how good a guy is or how hard he tries to be fair and equal with his talents and time. It saves money but it isn't (like many things) in the public's intrest, only the suits.

I am not "in the business"...... only a listener who was wondering what was happening with my current favorite station KBEZ. I loved Cooper in the afternoons! When he wasn't there he was usually in the morning or somewhere else. I am really happy that he still seems to be on on the weekends. I started looking around at who the new guy was when I didn't hear any other changes on the air. I have had to change stations because this Dave guy is just terrible. As I read he may have been good at his other job which, not being a radio person, I don't understand, but on air he sucks big time. Sorry Dave! His voice is whiny and hard to listen to. Until they either get Cooper back or find a decent replacement I will spend my afternoons elsewhere!!

It seems sad after looking at some of the entries on this site that radio seems to be struggling so much financially like everyone else that they have compromised quality for the almighty dollar. The listener such as myself does not seem to matter anymore. I used to listen to KVOO too - not anymore. I switched to KBEZ and now that seems to be on the way out!

Hey OKC-
You remind me of my Senior Class English teacher. From what I am reading, the stuff outta your head is pretty seasoned so I know you know what your talking about. Yeah man, OKC has always been a great radio market. I used to love to listen to KOMA and WKY back in the early/middle 70's. J. Robert Dark at KOMA and Danny Williams and other characters who's names escape me over at kY. It was fun listening as I drove through town on my way back to Tulsa on a regular basis from Lawton. Also the KATT was the first AOR station I ever heard. I never thought they's make it! Man was I wrong!!! I love your screeds man. Keep it up. It's always fun reading. Good Luck in '09.

Your Bud,
Bob O'Shea

You too Bob! The old WKY and KOMA rivalry and the KAKC and KELi rivalry was a great time in radio. Competition was a good thing that brought out (for the most part) the best in radio. Hopefully some day the industry will start heading back that way if more smaller operators get in the game. Until then we can only wish.... :)

Ryan--

Thanks for the props...I am employed again, at least temporarily, helping out at Wild and Kiss in OKC. I'll be on mid-days with Kiss (10a-1p) TFN starting Monday (11/24).

All the best to those who are without, I know the feeling.
