Actually, my friend, Dave is doing afternoon drive on EZ now.
I'm glad to hear he's still employed, etc. Who knows on that one.. He might have wanted to not have to deal with being the PD and just go back to air talent. I'm in OKC so I didn't know he was still on in afternoon drive, etc.
I don't know if you've recently worked for Tony or if you ever have, but it has been my experience that people tend to work for Mr. Renda for very long periods of time. It is a terrific company to work for. Here in Tulsa, it is a class operation all the way around.
Like all companies there are good and bad points to his operation. I still stand behind my statemanent that he is CHEAP in a lot of respects. Maybe in this particular situation it may have less to do with the cheap factor.
We've got the one of the best engineers I've ever worked with
Richard Hardy IS one of the very best, without a doubt.
and as far as Tucker rising to the challenge, believe me bud he's got the chutzpa to pull it off.
It's not a question of Todd's abilities. I question if any PD should have to think about more than one station at a time. It's done all the time but that doesn't mean it's the best way to go. It is, however the CHEAPEST way to go.
I do hate to see a terrific PD go the way of the evening paper but beleive me when I tell you that Todd Tucker can handle the chore.
I'm sure he will to the best of his abilities with 50 percent of his time as he now has two totally different properties to say grace over now.
I'm just glad to see Dave still employed and not on the beach during the holidays! I know how that feels when I got blown out Christmas Eve week of '97.
Firing people near Christmas (which is a real favorite of many of the larger groups) is one of the darkest parts of our industry strictly based on the corporate convience without regard to the employees at all. That kind of attitude is exactly what is wrong with the industry to begin with.
That's another saga in the unfolding drama that is my life. The stuff that epic movies are made of really....but I digress. Don't be so quick to point your lewd little finger. Renda Broadcasting isn't in the can like a lot of other big companies I know of right now. Hey, it's tough all over!
Times are tougher in radio than they should be because of spending too much money aquiring properties and foolish business practices. Renda is no different other than, in general, he still believes in keeping full-time air talent around to make the product better, for the most part. That part of his operation is a definate posititve. I can list other things in the negitive catagory if you'd like me too (or not). Considering now that appearently the former PD is still employed there I have less of a reason to bother.

Love,
Bob
