DAVE-FM blows...it's "radio without reason"

not "rock without rules." I just moved back into the market and can't believe
I'm actually mourning Z-93 (and I didn't think anything could make me miss that station)! What is this station? Where are the air personalities? Do they even have a morning show -- 'cause I know no one in their right minds could consider Barnes and his cohorts a morning show, much less air personalities. He was played out years ago at 99x, before I left the market. And what's happened to Mara...are they holding a gun to her head and holding her personality hostage? She used to be the one of the only things I truly liked about the old Z93 -- I wouldn't have even believed it was the same lady, if she hadn't said her name. I also miss the old Z93 promos. At least they had attitude and were funny! Did they change promo guys too? Z93 had George somebody producing and doing announce? Is DAVE stifling his talent, too?
What gives here? I know it's all probably old news for you guys posting, but
I've only been gone a little over a year and things are different...well, almost..Q100's morning's still run rings around all commers in town.
Somebody update me, please, and tell me what's what with the folks I mentioned.

George Robinson is no longer doing imaging. Poor guy is recovering from a health scare. But I dont think one has to do with the other. Agree totally with comments about personalities.

Random thought about Barnes: he'd actually be an excellent promotions guy at a station. Or a good radio salesperson. In fact of all radio positions, on-air is probably his weakest area. Agree/disagree?

More on George Robinson?

What happened to him healthwise --is he okay or is he unable to work? Was he with DAVE when his health failed or did he get slammed with most of the others from Z93? Hope he's okay, he was wicked talented and went out of his way to help me out once (I'm just sorry I couldn't remember his last name).
About Barnes, I'd like to think that on air isn't his best talent, BUT I'm not sure that sales or promotions would be it either. I had the misfortune to meet him professionally on several instances (I used to be with an ad group)and he was certainly less than charming. Arrogance seemed to be a very consistent trait of his...now, maybe I should give him the benefit of the doubt, but it was on 3 different occassions and he was less than cordial each time. Maybe if
he had a sales commission check riding on it, the charm would come out!
Have a few more Z/DAVE questions to help bring me up to speed without reading a year's worth of postings. Where's Willard? I never warmed to him, but still wonder where he's at? What happened to Jeff Dunham? And finally, are DAVE
promos all produced "outside?" They have zero production values. Agree? Disagree?

It is hard to call Barnes a personality when he does not have one. Last week he threatened to sue 99x because they were making fun of his movie and had an unofficial viewing of the DVD release. I have been to a couple of his remotes when he was at 99x and he had no interaction with people, mostly talked on his cell phone. You know he is too cool for school. Mara does sound like she has been replaced with a drone. It is like they wiped her bubbly personality away. willard is still there but doing sales. Last saw on this board is Dunham has moved to Florida and was looking for work. Have not heard where Kaedy is.

I had a chance to work with George years ago when Z-93 went classic rock. He is a first rate talent, and a human deluxe. I hope he has a speedy recovery, and gets back in the swing of things soon.

I too wish for the Mara of yesteryear. I think Infinity has turned all the jocks at Dave into Stepford DJ's. ( For the youngsters go rent the video "The Stepford Wives". The original, not the new piece of dooty!)

As for Barnes.... I think his talents lie in being a dictator of a country that we invade.

Dave is not that bad..

OK I hate Barnes and Firfer with a passion.. and I don't listen to them quite that much.. but they seem to have the greatest passion and variety of rock music in the city. (sans WREK and the other non-profits) There was music last night that was a bit deep in some albums.. That's what radio should be.. Music to expand your horizons.. Not everyone is wrapped into just one set of music on the demographic roadmap.. They kind of remind me of what 99X used to be, taking some chances and making a difference. Z-93 was like Old Yeller it needed to be put out of it's misery.. Dave could use some improvements.. (a pure Jack format would be nice).. But for what it does it sure does beat listening to hip hop (half of Atlanta radio stations it seems) and tired rock tunes from the hallucinogenic generation (96 Rock)

Add my good wishes to those already expressed for George. A great talent and kind person - a rare thing in radio. There was a time when Z did play a wide variety of rock, back when there were better talents on the air, like Bob Bailey, Caroline, and Redd. You'll notice, by the way, that Caroline was so good the PD made her replacement imitate her delivery.
